S: Da4 jia1 hao3. Wo3 shi4 Stuart. Let’s start with a real test. Everybody say, This is my big sister’s daughter. She is nine. She goes to primary school, grade 4.<\/p>\n

M: Hen3 hao3 \u8fd9\u662f\u6211\u59d0\u59d0\u7684\u5973\u513f\u3002\u5979\u4e5d\u5c81. \u5979\u4e0a\u5c0f\u5b66\u56db\u5e74\u7ea7 zhe4 shi4 wo3 jie3jie de nv3er2. Ta1 jiu3 sui4. Ta1 shang4 xiao3xue2 si4 nian2ji2.<\/p>\n

S: And do you remember how to say, Who is this? Dui4 le. \u8fd9\u662f\u8c01 zhe4 shi4 shei2?<\/p>\n

M: Who? \u8c01 shui2 SHUI shui2, is often pro<\/em>nounced ‘shei2′, SHEI, shei2. So you could say, \u8fd9\u662f\u8c01\uff1fZhe4 shi4 shei2? Now for a brief conversation, still looking at photos, zhao4pian4.<\/p>\n

S: \u8fd9\u662f\u8c01 zhe4 shi4 shui2?<\/p>\n

M: \u8fd9\u662f\u6211\u54e5\u54e5\u7684\u5973\u513f zhe4 shi4 wo3 ge1ge de nv3er.<\/p>\n

S: \u5979\u4e0a\u4e2d\u5b66\u4e86\u5417 ta1 shang4 zhong1xue2le ma?<\/p>\n

M: Shi4 de. \u4e8c\u5e74\u7ea7 er4 nian2ji2.<\/p>\n

S: What subjects does she like most? \u5979\u6700\u559c\u6b22\u4ec0\u4e48\u5b66\u79d1 ta1 zui4 xi3huan1 shen2me xue2ke1?<\/p>\n

M: Maths. \u5979\u6700\u559c\u6b22\u6570\u5b66 ta1 zui4 xi3huan1 shu4xue2.<\/p>\n

S: Ah, \u8fd9\u662f\u8c01 zhe4 shi4 shei2?<\/p>\n

M: \u6211\u4e08\u592b\u7684\u5f1f\u5f1f wo3 zhang4fu de di4di. \u4ed6\u4e0a\u5927\u5b66\u4e86 ta1 shang4 da4 xue2le.<\/p>\n

S: What does he study? \u4ed6\u5b66\u4ec0\u4e48 ta1 xue2 shen2me?<\/p>\n

M: Zoology, and also chemistry \u4ed6\u5b66\u52a8\u7269\u5b66, \u4e5f\u5b66\u5316\u5b66 ta1 xue2 dong4wu xue2, ye3 xue2 hua4xue2.<\/p>\n

S: What year will he graduate? \u4ed6\u54ea\u5e74\u6bd5\u4e1a ta1 nei3 nian2 bi4ye4?<\/p>\n

M: \u4ed6\u660e\u5e74\u6bd5\u4e1a ta1 ming2 nian2 bi4ye4.<\/p>\n

S: Now for the new things. I asked, \u5979\u6700\u559c\u6b22\u4ec0\u4e48\u5b66\u79d1?<\/p>\n

M: ta1 zui4 xi3huan1 shen2me xue2ke1? \u6700\u559c\u6b22 , literally, ‘most like’, meaning ‘like the most’. The zui4 is the same zui4 as in ‘best’ \u6700\u597d\u7684zui4 hao3 de.<\/p>\n

S: Or ‘worst’ \u6700\u5dee\u7684 zui4 cha4 de. Everybody say, on your own, ‘this is the worst, that is the best’.<\/p>\n

M: Hen3 hao3. \u8fd9\u662f\u6700\u5dee\u7684\uff0c\u90a3\u662f\u6700\u597d\u7684 zhe4 shi4 zui4 cha4 de, na4 shi4 zui4 hao3 de.<\/p>\n

S: Back to, ta1 zui4 xi3huan1 shen2me xue2ke1?<\/p>\n

M: \u5b66\u79d1 XUE KE xue2ke1 is an ‘academic subject’ xue2ke.<\/p>\n

S: So, everybody say, What subject do you like most?<\/p>\n

M: Fei1chang2 hao3. \u4f60\u6700\u559c\u6b22\u4ec0\u4e48\u5b66\u79d1 ni3 zui4 xi3huan1 shen2me xue2ke1?<\/p>\n

S: And many subjects end in \u5b66, like in ‘number xue2, shu4xue2, maths.<\/p>\n

M: If \u5316 HUA hua4 means ‘change’ ‘transform’, can you guess what \u5316\u5b66 hua4xue2 is? I bet you said ‘chemistry’ the science of transforming substances, hua4xue2.<\/p>\n

M: And we’ll finish with –<\/p>\n

S: Ah, who’s this? \u8fd9\u662f\u8c01 zhe4 shi4 shei2?<\/p>\n

M: \u6211\u4e08\u592b\u7684\u5f1f\u5f1f wo3 zhang4fu de di4di. He goes to university \u4ed6\u4e0a\u5927\u5b66\u4e86\u3002Ta1 shang4 da4 xue2le.<\/p>\n

S: Lastly, I asked, What year will he graduate? \u4ed6\u54ea\u5e74\u6bd5\u4e1a? \u6bd5\u4e1a BI YE bi4ye4, to graduate, bi4ye4.<\/p>\n

M: Next year. \u4ed6\u660e\u5e74\u6bd5\u4e1a ta1 ming2 nian2 bi4ye4.<\/p>\n

S: And we will ming2tian1 jian4.<\/p>\n

M: zai4 jian4!
