Y: \u4f60\u597d\uff01Today we’ll learn more numbers. Before co<\/em>ntinuing with more numbers this time, let’s first review what we learned during the last two lessons, ‘cause what we are going to learn this time has an intimate relatio<\/em>nship with them. <\/span>
C: Well, during the last two lessons we learned how to say the numbers from 1 to 10 in Chinese. <\/span>
Y: Cam, could you please have a try to speak them out? <\/span>
C: Ok. No problem. From 1 to five they are \u4e00\u4e8c\u4e09\u56db\u4e94 (y\u012b èr s\u0101n sìw\u01d4.) Right? <\/span>
Y: Exactly. Then what a<\/em>bout those from six to ten ?
C: They are \u516d\u4e03\u516b\u4e5d\u5341 (liù q\u012b b\u0101 ji\u01d4 shí). <\/span>

C: Wow, that sounds challenging. Let’s get started!
Y: Ok. The numbers from 10 to 20 are very easy.  10 is shí. We learned it during the last time. The pro<\/em>nunciation of 10 is similar to “sh” of the English word “shield”. The second tone, 10 (shí). 11 is shi yi, 12 is shí èr, and so on.
C: shí y\u012b, shí èr.
Y: Right! And 14 is? <\/span>
C: shísì.
Y: And 16 is?
C: shí liù.
Y: you got it.  In Chinese, double digit numbers are said the same way from 20 onwards.  20 is er shi. Literally, 2 and 10. Thirty is san shi.  33 is san shi san.
C: s\u0101n shí s\u0101n <\/span>
Y: 32 is san shi er.
C: s\u0101n shí èr.
Y: And 85 is b\u0101 shíw\u01d4.
C: b\u0101 shíw\u01d4.<\/p>\n

Y: Last time we learned how to say “10 books” in Chinese? Do you still remember that, Cam?
C: Yes, it’s \u5341\u672c\u4e66 (shí b\u011bn sh\u016b). \u672c is a measure word, and \u4e66 means book.  That’s easy! So I can say“\u6211\u670923 \u672c\u4e66”, I have 23 books. <\/span>
Y: \u6211\u670923 \u672c\u4e66. There is an im<\/em>portant verb in the sentence. It’s \u6709. Here \u6709express possession. \u6211\u6709, \u6211, I. \u6709, have. <\/span>
Yeah, and also “\u621123\u5c81”\u3002 \u6211 is I , and suì means year. So “\u621123\u5c81” means “ I’m 23 years old”.<\/p>\n
