Cam: YJ, I haven’t seen my friend for a<\/em>bout 6 months. So what should I say to greet her?
YJ: Well, you can say\u597d\u4e45\u6ca1\u89c1\u4e86(Hao3jiu3 Mei2 jian4 le)\u3002I haven’t seen you for a long time, \u597d\u4e45means long time.
Cam: Hao3jiu3 And I know \u6ca1(mei2) means ‘not’.
YJ: Right. And \u89c1(jian4), j-i-an, fourth tone, means to ‘see’ . \u6ca1\u89c1, not see. \u597d\u4e45\u6ca1\u89c1\u4e86(Hao3jiu3 Mei2 jian4 le).  Long time no see.
Cam: Hao3jiu3 Mei2 jian4 le. Long time no see.
YJ: Then you could co<\/em>ntinue by saying \u4f60\u597d\u5417\uff1f\uff08ni2 hao3 ma1\uff09, means ‘How are you?’
Cam: \u4f60\u597d\u5417\uff1fhow are you? Then if I feel “Not bad”, how can I say it in Chinese?
YJ: \u8fd8\u4e0d\u9519(Hai2 bu2 cuo4)”. Not bad. \u8fd8(Hai2) means still. \u4e0d\u9519(bu2 cuo4), not bad. “\u8fd8\u4e0d\u9519(Hai2 bu2 cuo4)”. Not bad.

YJ: \u51b0\u7bb1\u91cc\u6709\u53ef\u4e50\u548c\u6a59\u6c41(Bing1xiang1 li3 you3 ke3le4 he2 cheng2zhi1). There is Coca Cola and orange juice in the refrigerator. \u53ef\u4e50, also known as \u53ef\u53e3\u53ef\u4e50, is the Chinese for Coca Cola.
Cam: Coca Cola, \u53ef\u53e3\u53ef\u4e50(ke3 kou3 ke3 le4). Sounds very close to the English.
YJ: Yeah. And\u53ef\u53e3\u53ef\u4e50(ke3 kou3 ke3 le4) is often shortened into\u53ef\u4e50(ke3 le4) in oral Chinese. In addition, orange juice- \u6a59\u6c41- is also welcomed. \u6a59, second tone. \u6c41, first tone. \u6a59\u6c41(cheng2 zhi1), orange juice.
