The kesi weaving skill mainly uses an ancient wooden loom and a number of bamboo-made shuttles and plectrums to weave colorful natural silk into a piece of fabric which is rich in color and takes on a complete set of color gradations by &ldquo;passing warp thread and cutting weft thread&rdquo;. This kind of fabric has a unique feature that its pattern is identical when seen from both its front and its back. At places like the pattern&rsquo;s outline and wher a certain color gradation changes to another, the surface of the fabric seems like having been carved by a knife and takes on little crevices or break marks. As &ldquo;it looks like it is chased when observed in the air&rdquo;, it earns its name as &ldquo;kesi&rdquo;.<br \/>  \u5357\u5b8b\u82cf\u5dde\u7f02\u4e1d\u4e1a\u5df2\u6709\u8f89\u714c\u6210\u5c31\u3002\u81ea\u660e\u4ee3\u59cb\uff0c\u7f02\u4e1d\u6280\u827a\u5728\u82cf\u5dde\u5e02\u533a\u53ca\u5468\u8fb9\u7684\u8821\u53e3\u3001\u9646\u6155\u3001\u9ec4\u6865\u3001\u5149\u798f\u3001\u4e1c\u6e1a\u7b49\u5730\u5e7f\u4e3a\u6d41\u4f20\uff0c\u6210\u4e3a\u8be5\u5730\u533a\u6700\u5177\u4ee3\u8868\u6027\u7684\u6587\u5316\u8868\u73b0\u5f62\u5f0f\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u660e\u4ee3\u82cf\u5dde\u7f02\u4e1d\u7ec7\u9020\u6280\u827a\u66f4\u4e3a\u7cbe\u6e5b\uff0c\u4ee5\u5fa1\u7528\u7f02\u4e1d\u9f99\u888d\u53ca\u7f02\u4e1d\u4e66\u753b\u4e2d\u7684\u5f00\u76f8\u7ec7\u54c1\u8457\u79f0\u3002\u5230\u4e86\u6e05\u4ee3\uff0c\u51fa\u73b0\u4e86\u7f02\u3001\u7ed8\u7ed3\u5408\u7684\u65b0\u6280\u827a\u3002<br \/>  Suzhou&rsquo;s kesi industry had made glorious achievements as early as in the Southern Song Dynasty. Since the Ming Dynasty, the kesi skill began to be widely spread in the downtown of Suzhou City and surrounding Likou, Lumu, Huangqiao, Guangfu, Dongzhu, etc., and became one of the most representative cultural forms of the region. In the Ming Dynasty, the Suzhou kesi weaving skill was even more extraordinary, and was well known for its use to make kesi imperial robes and kesi painting and calligraphy. Then in Qing Dynasty, there emerged a new skill that combined ke with drawing.<br \/>  20\u4e16\u7eaa60\u5e74\u4ee3\uff0c\u4ee5\u590d\u5236\u5357\u5b8b\u7f02\u4e1d\u540d\u4f5c\u4e3a\u8d77\u70b9\uff0c\u827a\u4eba\u4eec\u6062\u590d\u4e86\u4e2d\u534e\u4eba\u6c11\u5171\u548c\u56fd\u6210\u7acb\u524d\u5df2\u544a\u6fd2\u5371\u7684\u7f02\u4e1d\u7ec7\u9020\u6280\u827a\u3002\u81f320\u4e16\u7eaa70\u81f380\u5e74\u4ee3\uff0c\u82cf\u5dde\u5148\u540e\u6210\u7acb\u4e86\u4e94\u5bb6\u7f02\u4e1d\u5382\uff0c\u7f02\u4e1d\u7ec7\u9020\u6280\u827a\u5f97\u5230\u7a7a\u524d\u53d1\u5c55\u3002\u300a\u53cc\u8776\uff1f\u7261\u4e39\uff1f\u5c71\u8336\u300b\u548c\u300a\u5bff\u661f\u56fe\u300b\u8fd9\u4e24\u4ef6\u53cc\u9762\u5168\u5f02\u7684\u7f02\u4e1d\u4f5c\u54c1\u5728\u4f20\u7edf\u7f02\u4e1d\u57fa\u7840\u4e0a\u53d6\u5f97\u4e86\u65b0\u7684\u7a81\u7834\uff0c\u5907\u53d7\u77a9\u76ee\uff0c\u88ab\u5f53\u4f5c\u56fd\u5b9d\u7ea7\u73cd\u54c1\u6536\u85cf\u3002<br \/>  In the 1960s, starting from the reproduction of kesi masterworks in the Southern Song Dynasty, China&rsquo;s artists restored the kesi weaving skill which was already in danger of being lost before the founding of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China. Between the 1970s and 1980s, five kesi plants were successively established in Suzhou City, which to a large extent promoted unprecedented development of the kesi weaving skill. Two kesi works, i.e., the Two butterflies &ndash; Peony &ndash; Camellia japo<em><\/em>nica and the Drawing of A Long-Lived Person, on both sides of which there are completely different patterns, made new breakthrough on the basis of the traditio<em><\/em>nal kesi weaving skill and drew great attention and were collected as natio<em><\/em>nal treasures.<br \/>  \u7f02\u4e1d\u4f5c\u4e3a\u6700\u65e9\u7528\u4e8e\u827a\u672f\u6b23\u8d4f\u7684\u4e1d\u7ec7\u7269\uff0c\u7d20\u4ee5\u5236\u4f5c\u7cbe\u826f\u3001\u53e4\u6734\u5178\u96c5\u3001\u8273\u4e2d\u5e26\u79c0\u7684\u827a\u672f\u7279\u70b9\u8457\u79f0\uff0c\u88ab\u8a89\u4e3a&ldquo;\u7ec7\u4e2d\u4e4b\u5723&rdquo;\u3002\u540c\u65f6\u7531\u4e8e\u7ecf\u5f97\u8d77\u6478\u3001\u64e6\u3001\u63c9\u3001\u6413\u3001\u6d17\uff0c\u5b83\u53c8\u83b7\u5f97&ldquo;\u5343\u5e74\u4e0d\u574f\u827a\u672f\u7ec7\u54c1&rdquo;\u4e4b\u8a89\u79f0\u3002\u7f02\u4e1d\u4f5c\u54c1\u5177\u6709\u5f88\u9ad8\u7684\u89c2\u8d4f\u4ef7\u503c\uff0c\u5386\u4ee3\u7f02\u4e1d\u7cbe\u54c1\u4e2d\u8574\u542b\u7740\u4e30\u5bcc\u7684\u6587\u5316\u4fe1\u606f\uff0c\u7f02\u4e1d\u6280\u827a\u4f53\u73b0\u4e86\u4f20\u7edf\u6587\u5316\u7684\u7279\u8272\uff0c\u5177\u6709\u76f8\u5e94\u7684\u6587\u5316\u4e0e\u79d1\u5b66\u4ef7\u503c\u3002<br \/>  As the first fabric used for artistic appreciation, kesi has always been known for its artistic characteristics of being exquisite, elegant with classic simplicity, gorgeous as well as beautiful, and is regarded as &ldquo;the best one among all fabrics&rdquo;. At the same time, as it is able to withstand touch, scrape, rub, and washing, it also earns the praise as &ldquo;an long-lasting millennium artistic fabric&rdquo;. Kesi works possess high aesthetic values. The kesi masterworks of various dynasties have rich cultural connotations, and the kesi weaving skill reflects characteristics of traditio<em><\/em>nal cultures, and both possess correspo<em><\/em>nding cultural and scientific value.<br \/>  \u5728\u73b0\u4ee3\u5316\u51b2\u51fb\u4e0b\uff0c\u82cf\u5dde\u7f02\u4e1d\u7ec7\u9020\u6280\u827a\u56e0\u751f\u4ea7\u5468\u671f\u957f\u3001\u6210\u672c\u9ad8\u3001\u4ef7\u683c\u8d35\u800c\u6fd2\u4e34\u6d88\u4ea1\uff0c\u76ee\u524d\u4ece\u4e8b\u8fd9\u4e00\u884c\u4e1a\u7684\u591a\u4e3a\u4e2d\u8001\u5e74\uff0c\u5176\u53d1\u5c55\u524d\u666f\u4ee4\u4eba\u5fe7\u8651\uff0c\u6709\u5fc5\u8981\u5236\u5b9a\u89c4\u5212\u52a0\u4ee5\u4fdd\u62a4\u3002<br \/>  Under the impact of modernization, the Suzhou kesi weaving skill is faced with the danger of extinction due to long production cycle, high costs, and expensive price.
