It is a place wher mountainous region borders upon the plain, with North China Great Plain in the southeast and mountains in the northwest. The mountains around Zhoukoudian are mostly made up of limestone which, under the erosion of dripping water, formed up into caves of various sizes. On the mountains, there is a natural cave a<em><\/em>bout 140m long running from east to west, known as Peking Man Cave. In 1929, it was in this cave that remains of ancient man was for the first time uncovered and the place was named Zhoukoudian First Site.<br \/>  \u5468\u53e3\u5e97\u9057\u5740\u533a\u662f\u4e2d\u56fd\u534e\u5317\u5730\u533a\u91cd\u8981\u7684\u65e7\u77f3\u5668\u65f6\u4ee3\u9057\u5740\uff0c\u5176\u4e2d\u6700\u4e3a\u8457\u540d\u7684\u662f\u5468\u53e3\u5e97\u7b2c\u4e00\u5730\u70b9&#8211;\u5373&quot;\u5317\u4eac\u4eba&quot;\u9057\u5740\u30021918\u5e74\u88ab\u745e\u5178\u5730\u8d28\u5b66\u5bb6\u5b89\u7279\u751f\u53d1\u73b0\u5e76\u8fdb\u884c\u8bd5\u6398\u30021927\u5e74\u52a0\u62ff\u5927\u5b66\u8005\u6b65\u8fbe\u751f\u5bf9\u5468\u53e3\u5e97\u9057\u5740\u8fdb\u884c\u6b63\u5f0f\u53d1\u6398\uff0c\u5e76\u5c06\u5468\u53e3\u5e97\u53d1\u73b0\u7684\u4e09\u679a\u4eba\u7684\u7259\u9f7f\u6b63\u5f0f\u547d\u540d\u4e3a&quot;\u4e2d\u56fd\u733f\u4eba\u5317\u4eac\u79cd&quot;\u30021929\u5e7412\u67082\u65e516\u65f6\uff0c\u6211\u56fd\u53e4\u4eba\u7c7b\u5b66\u5bb6\u88f4\u6587\u4e2d\u53d1\u6398\u51fa\u571f\u4e86\u7b2c\u4e00\u9897\u5b8c\u6574\u7684&quot;\u5317\u4eac\u4eba&quot;\u5934\u76d6\u9aa8\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e00\u53d1\u73b0\uff0c\u9707\u60ca\u4e86\u4e16\u754c\u5b66\u672f\u754c\u3002<br \/>  The Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian is an im<em><\/em>portant site of the Palaeolithic Age in North China, the most well-known being Zhoukoudian First Site -Peking Man Site. It was discovered and tentatively excavated by the Sweden geologist Johan Gunnar Andersson in 1918. In 1927, the Canadian scholar Davidson Black undertook the formal excavation of the Zhoukoudian Site and officially named the three human teeth uncovered in Zhoukoudian &quot;Homo erectus pekinensis&quot;. At 16 o&#8217;clock on Dec. 2, 1929, Chinese anthropologist Pei Wenzhong uncovered the first skull intact of Pekin Man and this discovery shocked the academic community worldwide.<br \/>  \u5468\u53e3\u5e97\u9057\u5740\u5386\u7ecf80\u4f59\u5e74\u65f6\u65ad\u65f6\u7eed\u7684\u53d1\u6398\uff0c\u79d1\u8003\u5de5\u4f5c\u76ee\u524d\u4ecd\u5728\u8fdb\u884c\u4e2d\u3002\u7b2c\u4e00\u5730\u70b9\u73b0\u5df2\u53d1\u6398\u4e8640\u4f59\u7c73\uff0c\u4f46\u8fd8\u4e0d\u5230\u6d1e\u5185\u5806\u79ef\u7684\u4e00\u534a\u3002\u5728\u5468\u53e3\u5e97\u5317\u4eac\u4eba\u9057\u5740\u51fa\u571f\u7684\u733f\u4eba\u5316\u77f3\u3001\u77f3\u5236\u54c1\u3001\u54fa\u4e73\u52a8\u7269\u5316\u77f3\u79cd\u7c7b\u6570\u91cf\u4e4b\u591a\u4ee5\u53ca\u7528\u706b\u9057\u8ff9\u4e4b\u4e30\u5bcc\uff0c\u90fd\u662f\u540c\u65f6\u4ee3\u5176\u5b83\u9057\u5740\u6240\u65e0\u6cd5\u76f8\u6bd4\u7684\u3002<br \/>  After a<em><\/em>bout 80 years of on-and-off excavation, the scientific exploration of Zhoukoudian Site is still under way. a<em><\/em>bout 40m have been excavated at the first site, accounting for less than half of the total cave.
