The ancient form of the character "\u9a6c" was a horse with long mane. The top of the character represents the long face of the horse and the bottom is its long tail. Different from their neighbors in the north and west, the Han people did not use horses very often, although horses had existed since prehistoric time. Generally, Chinese ancients used cattle and water buffalos rather than horses to cultivate. Instead of using horses to pull heavy loads, they used donkeys and mules. As conveyance, boats, sedan chairs and wheelbarrows were more popular than horses.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
