Ch\u00e9ngzi, CHENG ZI, \u6a59\u5b50\uff0cis orange. P\u00fatao, PU TAO, \u8461\u8404\uff0cgrapes. <\/p>\n<p>S: T\u00e1ozi, TAO ZI, \u6843\u5b50is peach; and the last one, y\u0101l\u00ed, YA LI, first tone second tone, \u9e2d\u68a8\uff0cis pear. Out of interest, l\u00ed itself also means pear, but \u2018y\u0101&#8217; itself means \u2018duck&#8217;. How come these two words came together? Perhaps nobody knows. <\/p>\n<p>M: Just bear in mind that y\u0101l\u00ed and l\u00ed both mean \u2018pear&#8217;, and that will be good enough. <\/p>\n<p>M: Stuart, \u4f60\u559c\u6b22\u5403\u54ea\u51e0\u79cd\u6c34\u679c\uff1fWhat kinds of fruits do you like to eat? I like eating pineapple, kiwi fruit, banana, and strawberry. What else? Wait, wait, I&#8217;m sure I still have many kinds to list\u2026 <\/p>\n<p>M: Stuart, your tummy is no smaller than mine! <\/p>\n<p>S: Perhaps it&#8217;s because I was born in the Year of the Monkey! <\/p>\n<p>S: ML asked me what kinds of fruit I like to eat. W\u01d2 x\u01d0hu\u0101n ch\u012b b\u014dlu\u00f3, m\u00edh\u00f3ut\u00e1o, xi\u0101ngji\u0101o, h\u00e9 c\u01ceom\u00e9i. <\/p>\n<p>M: \u83e0\u841d\uff0cBO LUO, b\u014dlu\u00f3, first tone second tone, b\u014dlu\u00f3, pineapple. And \u7315\u7334\u6843\uff0cMI HOU TAO, m\u00edh\u00f3ut\u00e1o, all in second tone, is kiwi fruit. <\/p>\n<p>S: By the way, m\u00edh\u00f3u means \u2018macaque&#8217;, those nice monkey like animals, and \u2018t\u00e1o&#8217;, we&#8217;ve learnt in last lesson, means peach. Maybe the Chinese believe macaques really like kiwi fruit, so they give the fruit such a name. <\/p>\n<p>M: The following two kinds of fruit are really delicious \u2013 \u597d\u5403\u3002They are banana, xi\u0101ngji\u0101o, XIANG JIAO, \u9999\u8549\uff0cand strawberry, c\u01ceom\u00e9i, CAO MEI, \u8349\u8393\u3002 <\/p>\n<p>M: Wow, we really taught our listeners a lot of fruit names, let&#8217;s quickly go through them. <\/p>\n<p>S: ML, on your table I saw oranges, grapes, peaches and pears. \u5728\u4f60\u7684\u684c\u5b50\u4e0a\u6211\u770b\u5230\u4e86\u6a59\u5b50\u3001\u8461\u8404\u3001\u6843\u5b50\u548c\u9e2d\u68a8\u3002 <br \/>M: Oh, ch\u00e9ngzi, p\u00fatao, t\u00e1ozi, he y\u0101l\u00ed.
