This wonderful summer resort is laurelled as the back garden of Beijing and Tianjin, boasting a beautiful coastline and perfect ecological environment..Qinhuangdao (\u79e6\u7687\u5cf6Qín-huáng-d\u01ceo) is a city in Hebei(\u6cb3\u5317Héb\u011bi)province, China. It is about 300 km east of Beijing, on the Bohai Sea(\u6e24\u6d77Bóh\u01cei), the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea. Qinhuangdao is situated near a section of the Beijing-Shenyang Railway Line in the northeastern part of Hebei (\u6cb3\u5317Héb\u011bi)Province. It borders the Yanshan(\u71d5\u5c71Yànsh\u0101n) Mountains in the north and Bohai(\u6e24\u6d77Bóh\u01cei) Bay in the south. One of north China's ice-free natural harbors, it abounds in fish, prawns, and other aquatic products. The famous health resort, Beidaihe(\u5317\u6234\u6cb3B\u011bidài Hé) Beach, lies southwestofthecity. \tThe First Pass Under Heaven<\/strong>
\tThis pass, also called Shanhai (\u5c71\u6d77Sh\u0101nh\u01cei)pass, is located fifteen kilometers northeast of Qinhuangdao at the eastern terminus of the Great Wall. The "pass city" was built during the Ming Dynasty \uff08\u660e\u4ee3Mín\u0261dài\uff09in the fourteenth year of Emperor Hong Wu's rule (A.D. 1381). It controlled communications between north and northeast China, a strategic location for which wars were often fought.<\/p>\n

\tAt the entrance to the pass is a twelve-meter-high rectangular city gate, which connects the Great Wall to the south and north. On top of the gate is a two-storied tower, which is 13 meters high, 20 meters wide, and 11 meters tick and decorated with painted eaves. The tower commands a spectacular view of distant Bohai Bay to the south and the tortuous path of the Great Wall to the north.<\/p>\n

\tMengJiangnuTemple (\u5b5f\u59dc\u5973\u5e99Mèn\u0261ji\u0101n\u0261n\u01damiào)<\/strong>
\tThis temple is located in the Shanhai Pass District of Qinhuangdao. Legend says that in the time of Qin Shi Huang\uff08\u79e6\u59cb\u7687Qínsh\u01d0huán\u0261\uff09 the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty\uff08\u79e6\u4ee3 Qíndài\uff09, Meng Jaingn|'s husband was conscripted to help build the Great Wall. Missing her husband very much, Meng jiangnu set out on the long journey to see him. When she arrived at eh foot of the wall, she learned that her husband had been worked to death and buried beneath it, and she wept so many tears that a huge section of the Great Wall crumbled away. The sorrowful woman then drowned herself in the sea, and a temple was erected to commemorate her. A clay sculpture of Meng Jaingnnu\uff08\u5b5f\u59dc\u5973Mèn\u0261ji\u0101n\u0261n\u01da\uff09 stands in front of the temple hall. Dressed in a black gown, she gazes out at the sea, her expressionrevealinghergriefandindignation.<\/p>\n

\tBeidaiheBeach \uff08\u5317\u6234\u6cb3B\u011bidài Hé\uff09<\/strong>
\tThis resort is located fifteen kilometers southwest of Qinhuangdao. It faces Bohai to the south and has the Lianfeng Hills, with their forests of pine and cypress, as a back drop. The beach is two kilometers wide and extends for ten kilometers from Daihekou(\u6234\u6cb3\u53e3Dài Hé K\u01d2u) in the west to Eagle Rock in the east. With its beautiful winding coastline and its pleasant, moderate climate, Beidaihe Beach is a popular spot for summer vacations. The area is dotted with buildings and villas, some along the beach and others hidden in groves. The main attractions are South Heavenly Gate (\u5357\u5929\u95e8Nánti\u0101nmén), Cave Leading to the Sky (\u901a\u5929\u6d1eT\u014dn\u0261ti\u0101ndòn\u0261), Camel Rock (\u9a86\u9a7c\u77f3Luòtuoshí), Tiger Rock (\u8001\u864e\u77f3Láoh\u01d4shí), Guanyinbeachside highway have been built or repaired. Sanatoriums embracing an area of 3,160,000 square meters have been built and five beachside parks restored.<\/p>\n
