So x\u012bwàng n\u01d0 x\u01d0hu\u0101n zhège l\u01d0wù, literally, hope you like this gift, almost the same as we put it in English. Now repeat the sentence with me, x\u012bwàng n\u01d0 x\u01d0hu\u0101n zhège l\u01d0wù. X\u012bwàng n\u01d0 x\u01d0hu\u0101n zhège l\u01d0wù.<\/p>\n

S: And how do we say ‘radio’ in Chinese? Duìle, sh\u014duy\u012bnj\u012b, radio, sh\u014duy\u012bnj\u012b. Out of interest, sh\u014du means ‘to receive’, y\u012bn means sound, and j\u012b means machine. Put them together and we get a ‘sound-receiving machine’, a sh\u014duy\u012bnj\u012b.<\/p>\n

M: And did you hear the measure word for ‘\u6536\u97f3\u673a’? Yes, it’s gè. So we say yígè sh\u014duy\u012bnj\u012b, one radio, li\u01cenggè sh\u014duy\u012bnj\u012b, two radios, etc.<\/p>\n

M: Now listen to this carefully, very useful sentence. \u987a\u4fbf\u95ee\u4e00\u4e0b\uff0c\u4f60\u7684\u59d1\u7236\u548c\u59d1\u5988\u8981\u5446\u591a\u4e45\uff1f<\/p>\n

S: Shùnbiàn wènyíxià, by the way, shùnbiàn wènyíxià. This phrase is widely used in daily life. So you must bear it in your mind. Now repeat it again with ML.<\/p>\n

M: Shùnbiàn wènyíxià, shùnbiàn wènyíxià. \u987a\u4fbf\u95ee\u4e00\u4e0b\uff0c\u4f60\u7684\u59d1\u7236\u548c\u59d1\u5988\u8981\u5446\u591a\u4e45\uff1f<\/p>\n

S: Hear the word ‘d\u0101i’? It can be a verb. And in colloquial Chinese, it means to stay. But be careful, when you use it as an adjective, it means dull or idiotic.<\/p>\n

M: And ‘du\u014dj\u01d0u’, DUO JIU, du\u014dj\u01d0u, first tone third tone, is ‘how long’. The du\u014d is the same du\u014d as in du\u014dsh\u01ceo, how many or how much, du\u014dsh\u01ceo. And the ‘j\u01d0u’ alone means a long period. So du\u014dj\u01d0u together mean ‘how long’. \u4f60\u7684\u59d1\u7236\u548c\u59d1\u5988\u8981\u5446\u591a\u4e45\uff1fLiterally, your uncle and aunt will stay how long? How long will your uncle and aunt stay?<\/p>\n

S: Li\u01cengge yuè. Two months. Li\u01cengge yuè.<\/p>\n

M: Notice the measure word for yuè is ‘gè’. When we talk a<\/em>bout the number of months, we simply put the number, the measure word, and ‘yuè’ together. For example, three mo<\/em>nths is ‘s\u0101nge yuè’, s\u0101nge yuè.<\/p>\n

S: So, to end our lesson today, how do we say twelve months\uff1f<\/p>\n

M: Duìle, shí’èrge yuè, shíèrge yuè.<\/p>\n
