M: Tóuténg. Tóu TOU head, tóu. Téng, TENG, téng, second tone, means to ache. And hóulong, HOU LONG, hóulong, means ‘throat’. So tóuténg means ‘headache’, tóuténg; while hóulong téng mean ‘throat-ache’, or a ‘sore throat’, hóulong téng.<\/p>\n

S: So how do we say, “my arm aches” in Chinese? A clue. ‘Arm’ in Chinese is \u80f3\u818a g\u0113bo.<\/p>\n

M: F\u0113ich\u0101ngh\u01ceo! \u6211\u7684\u80f3\u818a\u75bc W\u01d2de g\u0113bo téng.<\/p>\n

S: And we learnt ages ago that xiàb\u0101n means get off work, and ‘hòu means after. So the whole sentence is, \u6211\u4e0b\u73ed\u540e\u53bb\u533b\u9662\u770b\u533b\u751f W\u01d2 xiàb\u0101nhòu qùy\u012byuàn kàny\u012bsh\u0113ng.<\/p>\n
