And tickets are usually flat, like a small sheet of paper, so the measure word is \u5f20 ZHANG zh\u0101ng. So try to say ‘I’ve bought three tickets’. H\u011bn h\u01ceo, \u6211\u4e70\u4e86\u4e09\u5f20\u7968 w\u01d2 m\u01cei le s\u0101n zh\u0101ng piào.<\/p>\n

S. \uff02Zh\u0101ng\uff02 is a very common measure word, used for things like tables and sheets of paper, and it’s also a very common family name. Ok, coming back to our text. ML goes off to buy the tickets. Listen out for the \uff02zh\u0101ng\uff02.<\/p>\n

M. \u597d\uff0c\u6211\u53bb\u4e70\u7968 w\u01d2 qù m\u01cei piào. \u60a8\u597d\uff0c\u6211\u8981\u4e24\u5f20\u7968 hello, I want two tickets. Nín h\u01ceo, w\u01d2 yào li\u01ceng3 zh\u0101ng piào. WOMAN. \u4e24\u5f20\u7968\uff0c\u4e09\u5341\u5757<\/p>\n

S. In colloquial speech we often use \uff02kuài\uff02 to mean yuán, the Chinese mo<\/em>netary unit. So ten RMB is \u5341\u5757shí kuài, or we can add qián, meaning ‘money’, at the end, \u5341\u5757\u94b1 shí kuài qián. So say ‘fifteen yuan’. Right, shí w\u01d4 kuài, or shí w\u01d4 kuài qiàn.<\/p>\n

M. I bought the tickets, \u6211\u4e70\u4e86\u7968 w\u01d2 m\u01cei le piào, and Stuart said:<\/p>\n

M. Rùk\u01d2u zài n\u01cer? Ru4, RU, ru4, fourth tone, also means ‘to enter’. And \u53e3 KOU kou, means ‘mouth’. Rùk\u01d2u, entrance.<\/p>\n

S. The entrance is there \u5165\u53e3\u5728\u90a3\u513f rùk\u01d2u zài n\u01cer.<\/p>\n

S. So today we learnt to say things like, ‘I’ll go buy the tickets’. \u6211\u53bb\u4e70\u7968 w\u01d2 qù m\u01cei piào.<\/p>\n
