His courtesy name is Zhongsheng. He was the youngest son of the famous historian Ban Biao, and his elder brother Ban Gu and his younger sister Ban Zhao were also well-known historians. Ban Chao was a person with great ambitions and tended not to take small details into consideration; however, he was also a person with affection toward his parents, a code for decent behavior and excellent insight.
