In fact, you shouldn&#39;t think of it as a single word; think of the \u6ca1 as belonging to what follows \u5dee\u70b9 and it makes more sense. Still, it can be a little confusing, and is worth a closer look.<\/p>\n<p>  \t<strong>Basic Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>  \tSubject + \u5dee\u70b9 + \u6ca1 [Verb Phrase]<\/p>\n<p>  \tNote that the &quot;Verb Phrase&quot; part is a desired result. So this structure is literally saying, &quot;almost didn&#39;t [Verb Phrase].&quot;<\/p>\n<p>  \tAlso note that because you&#39;re using \u6ca1, you don&#39;t use \u4e86 after the verb phrase.<br \/>  \t<strong>Examples<\/strong>  \t<\/p>\n<div>w\u01d2 ch&agrave;di\u01cen m&eacute;i \u0261\u01cen sh&agrave;n\u0261 hu\u01d2ch\u0113\u3002<br \/>  \t\u6211 \u5dee\u70b9 \u6ca1 \u8d76 \u4e0a \u706b\u8f66\u3002<\/div>\n<div>I almost didn&#39;t make the train.
