 The Palace Museum in Beijing-China’s former imperial palace, or Forbidden City(\u6545\u5bab)-announced(\u5ba3\u5e03) on Tuesday that it has begun(\u5f00\u59cb) to sell(\u5356) entry tickets(\u95e8\u7968) solely(\u53ea) through(\u901a\u8fc7) its o<\/em>nline(\u5728\u7ebf) booking(\u9884\u8ba2) system(\u7cfb\u7edf), with few(\u5c11\u6570\u7684) exceptions(\u4f8b\u5916). <\/p>\n

The move is designed "to avoid(\u907f\u514d) crowds at the box office, reduce(\u51cf\u5c11) waiting(\u7b49\u5f85) time(\u65f6\u95f4) and provide(\u63d0\u4f9b) a more comfortable(\u8212\u9002\u7684) visiting(\u53c2\u89c2) experience(\u4f53\u9a8c)", said Shan Jixiang, director of the museum.<\/div>\n
o<\/em>nline ticket booking is available on the official website, www.dpm.org.cn.<\/div>\n
To relieve the heavy pressure and safety co<\/em>ncerns brought by huge crowds, a daily visitor quota of 80,000 was set in June 2015, and an o<\/em>nline ticketing system was launched. On launch day, a<\/em>bout 7,500 of the day’s 50,000 visitors-a<\/em>bout 15 percent-bought tickets online. By 2016, the number had expanded dramatically to 40 percent. As of August, it has mushroomed to 77 percent.<\/div>\n

Shan said web-o<\/em>nly ticket sales worked so well during the recent(\u6700\u8fd1\u7684) Natio<\/em>nal Day holiday that a decision(\u51b3\u5b9a) was made to make it permanent(\u6c38\u4e45\u7684).On Oct 2, for example, all 80,000 entry tickets were sold in advance online.<\/div>\n
It rolled out its web-o<\/em>nly ticketing plan for public comment in May. Some people thought it might be an inco<\/em>nvenience for anybody unfamiliar with internet. But Shan said museum employees carrying a QR code(\u4e8c\u7ef4\u7801) for the ticket-booking system walk around the square near the entrance to help people in need.One box office window remains-reserved for visitors with special needs, like overseas visitors who do not have Chinese o<\/em>nline payment channels.<\/div>\n
