Today we’ll learn a few of popular ex<\/em>pressions of saying thanks. \u8c22\u8c22\u4f60\u3002Thank you. \u975e\u5e38\u611f\u8c22\u3002Thank you very much. \u4e0d\u7528\u8c22\u3002\u4e0d\u5ba2\u6c14\u3002You are welcome. All in today’s Chinese Studio.  <\/span>

Y: When you want to thank somebody for doing something for you. For instance, “Thank you for passing me the salt.” Just say “\u8c22\u8c22” or “\u8c22\u8c22\u4f60”, which has the same order as that of in English. \u8c22\u8c22means “thank”, and \u4f60 means “you”. Thank you. \u8c22\u8c22\u4f60.<\/p>\n

Cam: \u8c22\u8c22\u4f60(xièxie n\u01d0), Yajie. \u8c22\u8c22\u4f60for teaching me how to say “Thank you”.   Is it right?<\/p>\n

Y: Absolutely! And the respo<\/em>nse should be\u4e0d\u7528\u8c22. You are welcome.<\/p>\n

Cam: \u4e0d\u7528\u8c22. Bù yòng xiè!<\/p>\n

Y: Yes. You can get the pro<\/em>nunciation of \u4e0d by deleting the “sh” from the English word “bush”. And then you will get \u4e0d(bù). \u4e0d\u7528\u8c22. Literally it means “Don’t thank”, \u4e0d\u7528is “There’s no need to…”, and \u8c22 is “Thank”. So the whole sentence has the meaning of “Don’t mention it.” But I think one thing is im<\/em>portant. And that is the pro<\/em>nunciation of\u4e0d would be changed to bú, the second tone, when it’s put in front of the one that has the fourth tone.<\/p>\n

Cam: Interesting! So it is\u4e0d\u7528bú yòng instead of bù yòng?<\/p>\n

Y:Correctly!<\/p>\n

Cam: Yajie, can I say\u4e0d\u8c22 (bú xiè)?<\/p>\n

Y: Yes, it’s more casual to say \u4e0d\u8c22than\u4e0d\u7528\u8c22 in daily life. It’s just like “Welcome” is the short form of “You are welcome.” in English. So today we will learn the negative form of verb. Simply just need to put\u4e0d in front of the verb\u8c22, \u4e0d\u8c22.<\/p>\n

Cam: \u8c22\u8c22\u4f60(xièxie n\u01d0)\u3002<\/p>\n

Y: \u4e0d\u7528\u8c22\u3002<\/p>\n

Y: There is another way to say “Thank you”. \u611f\u8c22 is the formal way of\u8c22\u8c22. It’s widely used in writing. For example, \u611f\u8c22\u4f60.<\/p>\n

Cam: \u611f\u8c22\u4f60. Thank you.<\/p>\n

Y: When you want to show your great appreciation to somebody. The proper saying is\u975e\u5e38\u611f\u8c22. Thank you very much. \u975e\u5e38 is an adverb, which means “very”, “quite”.<\/p>\n

Cam: \u975e\u5e38\u611f\u8c22. But the order of the words is different from that of in English.<\/p>\n

Y: Yes, very much thank you. \u975e\u5e38\u611f\u8c22.<\/p>\n
