During the Southern Tang Dynasty, there lived a Zen Master named Fa Deng in the Qingliang Temple of Nanjing. He was uninhibited and often refused to respect the tenants of Buddhism, or take care of the temple. Most of the monks at the temple scorned him, only the Zen master in charge of the temple, Fa Yan, thought highly of Fa Deng.<\/div>\n

Zhè shíhòu, F\u01ce D\u0113ng zhèng h\u01ceo j\u012bngguò, F\u01ce Y\u01cen chánsh\u012b jiù wèn le t\u0101 tóngyàng de wèntí.
\t\u6709\u4e00\u6b21\uff0c\u6cd5\u773c\u7985\u5e08\u8bb2\u4f5b\u7ecf\u65f6\u95ee\u9053\uff1a“\u8c01\u80fd\u591f\u628a\u7cfb\u5728\u8001\u864e\u8116\u5b50\u4e0a\u7684\u91d1\u94c3\u89e3\u4e0b\u6765\uff1f”\u548c\u5c1a\u4eec\u601d\u8003\u4e86\u5f88\u957f\u65f6\u95f4\uff0c\u8c01\u4e5f\u56de\u7b54\u4e0d\u51fa\u6765\u3002\u8fd9\u65f6\u5019\uff0c\u6cd5\u706f\u6b63\u597d\u7ecf\u8fc7\uff0c\u6cd5\u773c\u7985\u5e08\u5c31\u95ee\u4e86\u4ed6\u540c\u6837\u7684\u95ee\u9898\u3002<\/div>\n
One day, Fa Yan, while explaining the Buddhist scriptures, asked, “Who can untie the bell on a tiger’s neck?” The monks thought for a long time, but on one could come up with an answer. At that moment, Fa Deng walked by, and Fa Yan asked him the same question. <\/div>\n

F\u01ce D\u0113ng bùji\u01ce s\u012bsu\u01d2 dd huídá shu\u014d:” zh\u012b y\u01d2u nà gè b\u01ce j\u012bnlíng xì dào l\u01ceoh\u01d4 bóz\u01d0 shàng de rén, cái néng gòu b\u01ce j\u012bnlíng ji\u011b xiàlái.” F\u01ce Y\u01cen chánsh\u012b duì t\u0101 dé dá’àn h\u011bn m\u01cenyì, rèn wéi t\u0101 néng gòu l\u01d0ngwù fóji\u0101o de ji\u0101oyì, hái d\u0101ng zhe dàji\u0101 de miàn bi\u01ceoyáng le t\u0101.
\t\u6cd5\u706f\u4e0d\u5047\u601d\u7d22\u5730\u56de\u7b54\u8bf4\uff1a“\u53ea\u6709\u90a3\u4e2a\u628a\u91d1\u94c3\u7cfb\u5230\u8001\u864e\u8116\u5b50\u4e0a\u7684\u4eba\uff0c\u624d\u80fd\u591f\u628a\u91d1\u94c3\u89e3\u4e0b\u6765\u3002”\u6cd5\u773c\u7985\u5e08\u5bf9\u4ed6\u5f97\u7b54\u6848\u5f88\u6ee1\u610f\uff0c\u8ba4\u4e3a\u4ed6\u80fd\u591f\u9886\u609f\u4f5b\u6559\u7684\u6559\u4e49\uff0c\u8fd8\u5f53\u7740\u5927\u5bb6\u7684\u9762\u8868\u626c\u4e86\u4ed6\u3002<\/div>\n
