\t‘I’m Eating Fried Chicken at People’s Square (\u6211\u5728\u4eba\u6c11\u5e7f\u573a\u5403\u70b8\u9e21, <\/span>W\u01d2zài Rénmíngu\u01cengch\u01ceng ch\u012b zháj\u012b<\/strong>)<\/strong>’ was included in Shanghainese indie pop artist A Si (<\/strong><\/span>\u963f\u8086, <\/span>\u0101 sì<\/strong>)<\/strong>’s first eponymous album, released on July 4, 2013. Although this song has been popular among Chinese “artistic youth” [hipsters] for some time, it didn’t reach the broader public until Xu Mingming, a contestant of literally China’s Dream Voice (<\/strong><\/span>\u4e2d\u56fd\u68a6\u4e4b\u58f0,<\/span> Zh\u014dngguó mèngzh\u012bsh\u0113ng<\/strong>)<\/strong> Chinese Idol covered the song on the July 14th episode.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tA Si’s record company Modern Sky later pointed out that Xu Mingming performed the song without the company’s permission, and requested that Chinese Idol stop airing her performance in all forms.<\/p>\n

\tAt time of translation, A Si’s ‘I’m Eating Fried Chicken at People’s Square’ has generated 227,115 listens on Xiami and 394,927 listens on Douban.<\/p>\n
