When goes to Chinese dialects, never miss <\/span>the dialect of Xiang <\/span><\/strong>(\u6e58\u8bed xi\u0101ngy\u01d4). Xiang (Hunanese) is spoken by roughly 36 million people in China, mainly in <\/span>Hunan<\/strong> <\/span>(\u6e56\u5357 Húnán) province, especially in the cities of <\/span>Changsha<\/strong> <\/span>(\u957f\u6c99 Ch\u01cengsh\u0101), <\/span>Zhuzhou<\/strong> <\/span>(\u682a\u6d32 Zh\u016bzh\u014du), <\/span>Xiangtan<\/strong> <\/span>(\u6e58\u6f6d Xi\u0101ngtán), <\/span>Yiyang<\/strong> <\/span>(\u76ca\u9633 Yìyáng), <\/span>Loudi<\/strong> <\/span>(\u5a04\u5e95 Lóud\u01d0),Hengyang<\/strong>\uff08\u8861\u9633 Héngyáng\uff09and <\/span>Shaoyang<\/strong> <\/span>(\u90b5\u9633 Shàoyáng). You’ll find also Xiang speakers in southern <\/span>Shaanxi<\/strong> <\/span>(\u9655\u897f Sh\u01cenx\u012b), southern <\/span>Anhui<\/strong> <\/span>(\u5b89\u5fbd Anhu\u012b), northeastGuangxi <\/span><\/strong>(\u5e7f\u897f Gu\u01cengx\u012b), <\/span>Sichuan<\/strong> <\/span>(\u56db\u5ddd Sìchu\u0101n) and <\/span>Guizhou<\/strong> <\/span>(\u8d35\u5dde Guìzh\u014du) provinces.<\/p>\n

Some scholars separate Xiang into two distinct varieties: Old Xiang, spoken in the southern elements in the Xiang-speaking region, and New Xiang, which might be heard in the northern Xiang-speaking region and has been affected by Mandarin.<\/p>\n

You’ll find 3 principal groups of Xiang dialects:<\/p>\n

Chángyì<\/span> sub-group, spoken in Changsha, Yiyang and 29 other cities and counties.
Lóushào<\/span> <\/span>sub-group which is spoken in Loudi Shaoyang and 19 other cities and counties.
Jíxù<\/span> <\/span>subgroup, which is spoken in Jishou (\u5409\u9996 Jísh\u01d2u), Xupu (\u6e86\u6d66 Xùp\u01d4) and six other cities and counties.<\/p>\n
