Australia’s largest city, Sydney, is gearing up for the annual Chinese New Year’s Festival – it’s the largest(\u6700\u5927\u7684) celebration(\u5e86\u5178) of the Lunar New Year outside of Asia.<\/p>\n

The City of Sydney’s festivities will kick off on February 16th, Lunar New Year’s Day, with an opening night fireworks(\u70df\u82b1) display at Sydney Harbor with the ico<\/em>nic Harbor Bridge glowing(\u95ea\u8000) an auspicious red(\u5409\u7965\u7684\u7ea2\u8272) for 10 co<\/em>nsecutive(\u8fde\u7eed\u7684) nights.<\/p>\n

More than 80 events(\u6d3b\u52a8) will be staged during the festival, which runs(\u6301\u7eed) until March 4th.<\/p>\n

This marks Sydney’s 22nd Chinese New Year Festival. It will include(\u5305\u62ec) everything from art exhibitions and food events to live performances and dragon boat races.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights(\u4eae\u70b9) is the traditio<\/em>nal Lunar lanterns exhibition, which will feature, among other things, an animated dog lantern(\u706f\u7b3c) in front of the Sydney Opera House, as well as two giant dog lanterns that guard(\u5b88\u536b) the entrance(\u5165\u53e3) to Chinatown.<\/p>\n

Lanterns representing(\u4ee3\u8868) the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac will light the Sydney Harbor foreshore from February 16th to the 25th.<\/p>\n

This year’s festivities will also include the largest dragon boat race(\u9f99\u821f\u8d5b) in the Southern Hemisphere, with up to 3-thousand paddlers taking part in a two-day regatta, which will include more than 100 races on February 24th and 25th.<\/p>\n

In addition, more than 200 performers(\u8868\u6f14\u8005) and internatio<\/em>nal delegates will be featured in the festival, taking part in traditional, co<\/em>ntemporary and folk dances, choral performances, martial arts and lion dances.<\/p>\n
