A young college graduate in 2009, Duan Biqing(\u6bb5\u5fc5\u6e05) became leader of a small poverty-stricken village in Yunnan Province. Overwhelmed by the poverty problem in the village, he decided to start a chicken cooperative and help farmers learn the best techniques(\u6280\u672f) to raise(\u517b\u6b96) free-range chickens.<\/p>\n

ow, over 170 households(\u519c\u6237) have increased(\u589e\u52a0) their income(\u6536\u5165) to more than six times that of the poverty line, making an average(\u5e73\u5747) of 9,000 yuan more per year of income per household than they made previously. He has taught 8,000 villagers advanced chicken breeding techniques. To ho<\/em>nor Duan’s achievement, he has been granted Natio<\/em>nal Award for Poverty Reduction- the o<\/em>nly one this year from Yunnan Province. <\/p>\n

The farm now produces some 90,000 native cage-free chickens(\u6563\u517b\u9e21) and 700,000 eggs with annual sales of 8 million yuan.<\/p>\n

Duan has held more than 300 training workshops to help more than 8,000 villagers learn a<\/em>bout most advanced(\u5148\u8fdb\u7684) chicken breeding techniques(\u517b\u6b96\u6280\u672f).<\/p>\n

The farm’s major customers(\u5ba2\u6237) are from Beijing, Jiangsu and Guangdong.<\/p>\n

To ho<\/em>nor Duan’s achievement(\u6210\u5c31), he has been granted the o<\/em>nly Natio<\/em>nal Award for Poverty Reduction in Yunnan Province.<\/p>\n
