He excelled at poem writing, and was known as one of the Four Literary Masters of the Wuzhong area, with the three others being Zhu Yunming, Wen Zhengming and Xu Zhenqing. He was even more famous for his paintings, and was known as one of the Four Great Painting Masters of Ming Dynasty along with Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, and Qiu Ying.
