Among the earliest and most influential poetic anthologies was the Chuci (Songs of Chu) , made up primarily of poems ascribed to the semi-legendary Qu Yuan (屈原) (ca. 340-278 B.C.) and his follower Song Yu (宋玉) (fourth century B.C.). The songs in this collection are more lyrical and romantic and represent a different tradition from the earlier Shijing. During the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D. 220), this form evolved into the fu, a poem usually in rhymed verse except for introductory and concluding passages that are in prose, often in the form of questions and answers. The era of disunity that followed the Han period saw the rise of romantic nature poetry heavily influenced by Taoism. The Han Chinese astronomer, mathematician, and inventor Zhang Heng (张衡)(78-139 AD) was also largely responsible for the early development of Shi poetry.

Those embarrassing childhood pictures in China
We all have the odd photographic skeleton in our closets – those embarrassing childhood pictures that we hope never see the light of day.
But it seems that users of the Chinese equivalent to Twitter are more than happy to air their most cringeworthy snaps of bygone days.
Weibo users have been taking to the website in their droves to post hundreds of hilariously awkward pictures to amuse their friends using a hashtag that translates as 'showing off some embarrassing photos of our childhood'.
Some seem to have been taken for festivals or special occasions – the red dots on the children's heads are for beauty or good luck.
The photos, many of which appear to date back to the eighties and early nineties, show the youngsters in a range of bizarre outfits and wearing far too much make up.
Many of the photos appear to have been shot in a studio – with children giving grown up props such as cigarettes that one can only assume are fake.

Tales from Three Character Classic《
The Three Character Classic, or San Zi Jing, is one of the Chinese classic texts. It was probably written in the 13th century and attributed to Wang Yinglin during the Song Dynasty. The work is not one of the traditional six Confucian classics, but rather the embodiment of Confucian thought suitable for teaching young children. Until the latter part of the 19th century, it served as a child's first formal education at home. The text is written in triplets of characters for easy memorization. With the short and simple text arranged in three-character verses, children learned many common characters, grammar structures, elements of Chinese history and the basis of Confucian morality.《三字经》与《百家姓》、《千字文》并称为三大国学启蒙读物。

Chinese food: red-mansion banquet
The Grand View Garden is adapted from the home of the play's leading character, Jia Baoyu. In the novel, he and his family members as relatives of the emperor hold titles of official nobility. Hence the garden's luxurious waterside pavilions, towers, buildings, bridges, streams, pools and many courtyards are reminiscent of Ming and Qing style.
