Zhengzhou郑州

  The capital city of Henan Province(河南省:Hénán shěnɡ), Zhengzhou(郑州:Zhènɡzhōu) is located in the middle of China, about 760 km (about 472 miles) south of Beijing and 480 km (about 298 miles) east of Xian. After the Longhai Railway (Lanzhou to Lianyungang) and Jingjiu Railway(京九线:jīnɡ jiǔ xiàn) (Beijing to Kowloon) were completed, their intersection, Zhengzhou, became a vital transportation hub. Thanks to this important position, the city has prospered.

Haikou海口

Haikou(海口 Hǎikǒu), known also as the 'Coconut City', is the capital of Hainan Province, China's second largest island. The city is the provincial administrative center of Hainan as well being the focus of the local economy, culture and transportation. Haikou stands at the northern end of Hainan Island(海南岛 Hǎinán dǎo), on the west bank of the Nandu River estuary. This river is the longest on the island and the city's name appropriately means 'Mouth of the Sea'.

Residents of a small city in southern China plan to hold an annual dog-meat festival on Friday amid intense criticism from animal rights groups, which have denounced the one-day event as unsafe and inhumane.玉林是位于中国南部的小城市,本周五,这里的人们计划举行一年一度的狗肉节,但受到各方动物权益组织的强烈谴责,称这为期一天的狗肉节既不安全也不人道。
Residents of Yulin in Guangxi province consider the festival an ancient summer solstice tradition. Many cherish their city's dog-meat culture, which involves the mass consumption of dog-meat hotpot served with lychees and strong grain liquor.在广西玉林,人们认为这一节日是夏至传统。许多人都保持着这座城市食用狗肉的文化,爱就着荔枝和烈度白酒吃狗肉火锅。
Animal rights groups say 10,000 dogs are slaughtered during the festival each year, and that many are electrocuted, burned and skinned alive. Pictures posted online show flayed dogs, dogs hanging from meat hooks, and piles of dog corpses on the side of the road.动物权益组织称,每年狗肉节都会屠宰1万只狗,其中有许多是被电死、烧死的,还有的被生生活剥。网上曝光的照片里有被剥皮后的狗、挂在肉钩上着的狗、还有路边上成堆的狗尸体。

The Summer Resort Capital of China —- Xining

Xining (西宁 Xīníng)is located in the eastern part of Qinghai province and lies on the HuangShui River(湟水河 Huánɡshuǐ hé ). It has a total area of 350 km². Xining is located on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(青藏高原 Qīnɡzànɡ ɡāoyuán)and the upper reaches of Huangshui River. It is the political, economic, scientific and technological, cultural and traffic center of Qinghai Province with an average altitude of over 2200 meters (about 7217 feet). The activities of human beings in this region can be traced to 2,100 years ago. During the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties, owing to its developing agriculture, Xining was paid more attention due to its economic and martial significance. As well as being the important hinge between the central plains and the western part of China in ancient time, Xining was the most common passing channel of the famous Silk Road(丝绸之路 Sīchóu zhīlù ). Until now, it is still the only road by which to enter the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
