So Young is a 2013 Chinese drama film directed by Zhao Wei. It is based on the web-novel of the same name To Our Youth that is Fading Away by Xin Yiwu. The film is Zhao's directorial debut.18岁的郑微(杨子姗 饰)终于如愿考上青梅竹马邻家大哥哥林静(韩庚 饰)所在学校的邻校,等她满怀期冀地步入大学校园,却遭遇打击——林静出国留学,杳无音信。郑微倍感失落,患难时刻与室友阮莞(江疏影 饰)、朱小北(刘雅瑟 饰)、黎维娟(张瑶 饰)及师哥老张(包贝尔 饰)结下深厚友谊,同时富家公子许开阳(郑恺 饰)对郑微展开了疯狂的追求,而备受男生欢迎的阮莞用她特有的清冷守护着对于爱情的忠贞。一次偶然的误会使郑微与老张室友陈孝正(赵又廷 饰)结为死敌,在一次次地反击中,郑微发现自己爱上了这个表面冷酷、内心善良的高材生,于是疯狂地反击演变为死缠烂打地追求,而陈孝正也终于在强攻之下缴械投降,欢喜冤家终成甜蜜恋人。大四毕业之际郑微的生活再次经受考验:陈孝正迫于家庭压力选择出国留学,却迟迟不敢告诉郑微。感觉再次被欺骗的郑微痛苦地离开陈孝正,却遇到搂着新欢的许开阳。 多年后,郑微已蜕变为职场上的白领丽人,竟再次品尝命运的无常:带着悔意和爱意的林静和陈孝正同时回到她的生活里!郑微,这个昔日的玉面小飞龙,将怎样面对生活和青春赐予她的迷雾和抉择。
The film's English-language title alludes to the song So Young by the British alternative rock band Suede from their self-titled debut album. In addition to the novel, the film was also based in part by Zhao's own personal college experience in the 1990s.本片改编自辛夷坞同名畅销小说。赵薇的首部导演作品,也是其在北京电影学院导演系研究生专业的毕业作品。

What is Measure Words in Chinese?

It looks complicated at first, as there are millions of them. Fortunately, you do not need to remember millions. Although, you may not always have an equivalent in English, you can use some tips to get the concept in several minutes.

(1) běn is generally used as a counter for book-like objects, such as books, dictionaries, pictorials (bound stuff)
(2) zhī : long round objects use zhī-such as pens and pencils
(3) zhāng:  large flat objects are counted with zhāng-such as tables
(4) liàng:  for Vehicles etc
(5) jià:  for airplanes etc
(6) sōu: related with -ship, such as: boats, spaceships and ships etc

Basically, the most commonly used measure word is 个(gè).If you do not know the proper meausre word for some items, it is time to try 个(gè) instead. Native Mandarin speakers do understand what you are talking about. Just remember to ask your Chinese friends what the correct measure word should be after that.

Chinese Food 13: Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish松鼠桂鱼

Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish松鼠桂鱼(sōngshǔ guì yú)

Flavor: salty and fresh口味:咸鲜
Characteristics: the surface is crisp and the inside is tender and soft; the sauce is sour and sweet, agreeable to the taste; has fresh and delicious flavor.特色:外松脆,内软嫩,卤汁酸甜适口,滋味鲜美。
Ingredients:原料: Mandarin fish, dry starch, ketchup, fresh soup, sugar, vinegar, wine, salt, minced garlic clove, diced bamboo shoot, mushroom, peas, lard, peeled prawns and sesame oil.桂鱼,干淀粉,番茄酱,鲜汤,糖,香醋,酒,盐,蒜瓣末,笋丁,香菇,豌豆,猪油,虾仁,麻油。
Way of cooking:制作方法: 1. Scale the mandarin fish and remove its gills; gut the fish and clean it; with the fish’s skin facing downward, cut the flesh of the fish in straight cuts and, then make diagonal cuts. The cuts should be deep enough to make a rhombus pattern on the fish skin.1. 将桂鱼去鳞及鳃,剖腹去内脏洗净,鱼皮朝下在鱼肉上先直剞,再斜剞,深至鱼皮成菱形刀纹。
2. Stir the Shaoxing wine with the refined salt well and then spread the mixture on the fish head and the flesh of the fish; then wrap them in the dry starch; hold the fishtail to shake off the excess starch.2. 用绍酒,精盐调匀,抹在鱼头和鱼肉上,再滚上干淀粉,用手拎鱼尾抖去余粉。
3. Put the ketchup in the bowl and add fresh soup, sugar, vinegar, wine, salt, wet starch and stir well to make the sauce.3. 将番茄放入碗内加鲜汤、糖、香醋、酒、盐、湿淀粉拌成调味汁。
4. Heat a wok with a strong flame,then add the lard, heat it until it is 80% heated before rolling the two fish pieces, letting the fishtail lift from the heat and then put the fish in a pan to fry it until it is shaped.4. 炒锅用大火烧热下猪油,烧至八成热时,先将两片鱼肉翻卷,翅起鱼尾,放入油锅稍炸使其成形。
5. Put the fish into the pan and fry them until they tune golden yellow then remove and arrange it on the plate; place the fish head to its place and form the shape of a squirrel.5. 再将鱼全部放入油锅炸,至金黄色捞起,放入盘中,装上鱼头拼成松鼠形。
6. Leave a little oil in the pan and fry the sliced green onion; fish out the green onion and add the minced garlic clove, diced bamboo shoots, mushrooms and peas, and fry them till they are heated through.6. 锅内留油少许,放葱段煸香捞出加蒜瓣末、笋丁、香菇丁、豌豆炒熟。
7. Put the sauce in the pan and cook it over a high heat until it is thick; add the lard and the peeled prawns, stirring them well before pouring the sesame oil over them; then spread the sauce over the fish.7. 下调味汁用大火烧浓后,放猪油和虾仁拌和,淋上麻油,起锅浇在鱼身上即成。
