M: I’m a nurse\u3000\u6211\u662f\u62a4\u58ebwo3 shi3 hu4shi.<\/p>\n

S: \u554a\uff0c\u4f60\u662f\u62a4\u58eb\u3002a4, ni3 shi4 hu4shi. The husband’s a doctor, the wife’s a nurse. \u4e08\u592b\u662f\u533b\u751f\uff0c\u59bb\u5b50\u662f\u62a4\u58eb. That’s very convenient.\u90a3\u5f88\u65b9\u4fbf.na4 hen3 fang1bian.<\/p>\n

S: \u4f60\u662f\u505a\u4ec0\u4e48\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\uff1f<\/p>\n

M: ni3 shi4 zuo4 shen2me gong1zuo4 de ne? \u505a ZUO zuo4 here means ‘to do’. \u5de5\u4f5cGONG ZUO gong1zuo4 is ‘work’ or ‘job’. So, ni3 shi4 zuo4 shen2me gong1zuo4 de? Literally,
You are doing what job? In real English, What’s your job? Say it with me, ni3 shi4 zuo4 shen2me gong1zuo4 de? \u4f60\u662f\u505a\u4ec0\u4e48\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\uff1f<\/p>\n

S: But remember, if you want to say What are you doing? (By my tone of voice, something naughty) We say, \u4f60\u5e72\u4ec0\u4e48 ni3 gan4 shen2me?<\/p>\n

M: I’m never naughty. Because I’m a nurse, \u56e0\u4e3a\uff0c\u6211\u662f\u62a4\u58ebyin1wei2, wo3 shi3 hu4shi. \u62a4\u58eb HU SHI hu4shi is ‘nurse’. Say with me, He, or she, is a nurse. \u4ed6(\u5979)\u662f\u62a4\u58eb\u3000ta1 shi4 hu4shi.<\/p>\n

S: Hen3 hao3. And I said, \u4e08\u592b\u662f\u533b\u751f\uff0c\u59bb\u5b50\u662f\u62a4\u58eb.<\/p>\n

M: qi1zi shi4 hu4shi. \u59bb\u5b50 QI ZI\uff0cfirst tone third tone, qi1zi3 is ‘wife’ qi1zi. So try to say, He is a doctor, his wife is a nurse. Fei1chang2 hao3. \u4ed6\u662f\u533b\u751f\uff0c\u4ed6\u7684\u59bb\u5b50\u662f\u62a4\u58eb ta1
shi4 yi1sheng, ta1 de qi1zi3 shi4 hu4shi.<\/p>\n

S: qi1zi3 is a bit formal. More colloquial is \u7231\u4eba AI REN ai4ren2, literally, ‘love person’. Ai4ren2 can mean wife, husband, and also sweetheart.<\/p>\n

M: So say, My sweetheart, or wife or hubby, is at the hospital. Hen3 hao3. \u6211\u7684\u7231\u4eba\u5728\u533b\u9662 wo3 de ai4ren2 zai4 yi1yuan4.<\/p>\n

S: That’s inconvenient. \u90a3\u4e0d\u65b9\u4fbf.<\/p>\n

M: na4 bu4 fang1bian. \u65b9\u4fbf FANG BIAN, fang1bian4, convenient, fang1bian4.<\/p>\n

S: Now everybody say, That’s very convenient.<\/p>\n

M: Mei2 cuo4, \u90a3\u5f88\u65b9\u4fbf na4 hen3 fang1bian4.<\/p>\n

S: That’s very inconvenient.<\/p>\n

M: \u90a3\u5f88\u4e0d\u65b9\u4fbf na4 hen3 bu4 fang1bian4.<\/p>\n

S: \u4f60\u662f\u505a\u4ec0\u4e48\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684 ni3 shi4 zuo4 shen2me gong1zuo4 de?<\/p>\n
