Cam: Da4jia1 hao3. Hello everyone. Wo3 Shi4 Cam. In last lesson, we learned how to say there is something in some place with a verb ‘\u6709’(you3) – y-ou, third tone, \u6709(you3).
YJ: Today we’ll show you how to use this sentence pattern to talk a<\/em>bout family. First, Key Words of the Day.<\/p>\n

Key Words of the Day<\/strong>
\u4f60\u5bb6\u91cc\u6709\u51e0\u53e3\u4eba\uff1fHow many people are there in your family? \u5bb6\uff0cfamily. \u7238\u7238 papa. \u5988\u5988\uff0cmum\u3002\u54e5\u54e5, older brother. \u59d0\u59d0, older sister. \u59b9\u59b9,  younger sister.\u5f1f\u5f1f means younger brother. \u7167\u7247, photograph. All in today’s Chinese Studio.<\/p>\n

YJ: \u4f60\u5bb6\u91cc\u6709\u51e0\u53e3\u4eba (Ni3 jia1 li3 you3 ji3 kou3 ren2)\uff1fHow many people are there in your family? \u4eba means people. \u51e0\u53e3\u4eba(ji3 kou3 ren2), how many people. \u53e3, third tone, here is a measure word. And \u5bb6, j-i-a, first tone, means family.
Cam: \u51e0\u53e3\u4eba(ji3 kou3 ren2) means how many people. \u5bb6 (jia1) means family.
YJ: Right. And \u4f60\u5bb6\u91ccmeans ‘in your family’.\u4f60\u5bb6\u91cc\u6709\u51e0\u53e3\u4eba (Ni3 jia1 li3 you3 ji3 kou3 ren2)\uff1fHow many people are there in your family?  
Cam: Ni3 jia1 li3 you3 ji3 kou3 ren2\uff1fHow many people are there in your family?  
YJ: Normally there are three people in one family of young people in my age. \u6709\u4e09\u53e3\u4eba (you3 san1 kou3 ren2).
Cam: You3 san1 kou3 ren2. There are three people.
YJ: Take myself as an example. In my family, there are \u7238\u7238(ba4 ba), \u5988\u5988(ma1 ma) and me\u3002
Cam: I guess \u7238\u7238(ba4 ba) means father while \u5988\u5988 (ma1 ma) means mum? Sound very close to.
YJ: You’re right. father in Chinese is\u7238\u7238. \u7238, b-a, fourth tone. But the second \u7238 would turn into the light tone in the phrase.
Cam:  \u7238\u7238 (ba4 ba).
YJ: and \u5988\u5988 (ma1 ma).

Cam: Oh, compared with you young people in China, I have a much bigger family. There are five people in my family. \u6211\u5bb6\u91cc\u6709\u4e94\u53e3\u4eba (Wo3 jia1 li3 you3 wu5 kou3 ren2)\u3002Am I right with the Chinese?
YJ: Sure. So who are they\uff1f

YJ: Now Cam, can you tell me the Chinese for ‘What’s in the box’? Box is \u76d2\u5b50(he2 zi). \u76d2, second tone. \u5b50, light tone.
Cam: It would be\u76d2\u5b50\u91cc\u6709\u4ec0\u4e48 (He2zi li3 you3 shen2me)\uff1fWhat’s in the box? Right?
YJ: Bingo. And what does ‘\u6709\u6211\u4eec\u5168\u5bb6\u7684\u7167\u7247(You3 wo3men quan2jia1 de zhao4 pian4)’ mean? \u5168\u5bb6 means whole family. \u7167\u7247 means photograph\u3002\u7167, zh-ao, fourth tone. \u7167. \u7247, pi-an, fourth tone again. \u7247.
Cam: “Quan2jia1 de zhao4 pian4” means ‘photographs of my whole family’. Now I get the meaning of the sentence. It’s “There are photographs of my whole family”. You3 wo3men quan2jia1 de zhao4 pian4.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
