\tThe Object
\t<\/strong>An object is appended to a verb acting as the subject to indicate the target of an action, the place arrived at by an action, the tools used in an action, or the result of an action. For instance,
\t\u6211\u4eec\u5728\u5403\u996d (w\u01d2men zài ch\u012bfàn)\u3002We are having lunch. ("\u996d" is the object)
\tThe object is usually placed after a verb serving as a predicate. The object is most often a noun or pronoun. However, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, numerals, and phrases can all act as the object. For instance,
\t\u6211\u4eec\u660e\u5929\u53bb\u8d2d\u7269 (w\u01d2men míngti\u0101n qù gòuwù)\u3002We will go shopping tomorrow. (The noun "\u8d2d\u7269" is the object)
\t\u6211\u559c\u6b22\u9493\u9c7c (w\u01d2 x\u01d0hu\u0101n diàoyú)\u3002I like fishing. (The verb "\u9493\u9c7c" is the object)<\/p>\n

\tA transitive verb can either carry an object or go without one. When a transitive verb carries one object it is called a single object. For instance,
\t\u6211\u4eec\u9605\u8bfb (w\u01d2men yuèdú)  We are reading. (The transitive verb "\u9605\u8bfb", to transcribe, does not carry an object)
\t\u6211\u4eec\u9605\u8bfb\u8bfe\u6587 (w\u01d2men yuèdú kèwén)\u3002 We are reading a book. (The transitive verb "\u9605\u8bfb" carries the object "\u8bfe\u6587", which is a single object)<\/p>\n

\tSome transitive verbs can take two object and this is called a double object. The first object is called an indirect object and the second is called a direct object. For instance,
\t\u8001\u5e08\u6559\u6211\u4eec\u82f1\u8bed (l\u01ceosh\u012b ji\u0101o w\u01d2men y\u012bngy\u01d4)\u3002 The teacher is teaching us English. (The pronoun "\u6211\u4eec" is an indirect object and the noun "\u82f1\u8bed" Chinese is a direct object)<\/p>\n

\tFor the purpose of emphasis, comparison, or simplification the object may be placed in front of a verb acting as a predicate. This is called a fronted object. For instance,
\t\u6211\u628a\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5bb6\u52a1\u6d3b\u90fd\u5e72\u5b8c\u4e86 (w\u01d2 b\u01ce zhèxi\u0113 ji\u0101wùhuó d\u014du g\u0101n wán le)\u3002I have finished all of the housework. (The object "\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5bb6\u52a1" is after the subject "\u6211" and before the predicate "\u5e72")
\t\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5bb6\u52a1\u6211\u90fd\u5e72\u5b8c\u4e86 (zhèxi\u0113 ji\u0101wùhuó w\u01d2 d\u014du g\u0101n wán le)\u3002 I have finished all of the housework. (The object "\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5bb6\u52a1" is before both the subject "\u6211" and the predicate "\u5e72")<\/span><\/p>\n
