Modern Chinese literature refers to the works created from the First Opium War in 1840 to the founding of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China in 1949.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p>  \tBefore the May 4th Movement in 1919, modern literature features to reflect great political events and the kaleidoscopic social life of the day. Most of them voiced opposition to the foreign invasion and exposed the evil feudal system of the time. In this period, great representative poets are <strong>Gong Zizhen <\/strong>(\u9f9a\u81ea\u73cd G\u014dng Z&igrave;zh\u0113n) and <strong>Huang Zunxian <\/strong>(\u9ec4\u9075\u5baa Hu&aacute;ng Z\u016bnxi&agrave;n), of which Gong Zizhen was a progressive and a creative romantic poet as well as one of the founders of modern Chinese literaturte, his masterpiece is Poems 1839.<\/p>\n<p>  \tNovels were also flourishing during this time and the most renowned are <strong>Exposure of the Official World <\/strong>(\u5b98\u573a\u73b0\u5f62\u8bb0 gu\u0101nch\u01ceng xi&agrave;nx&iacute;ng j&igrave;) by <strong>Li Baojia <\/strong>(\u674e\u5b9d\u5609 L\u01d0 B\u01ceoji\u0101), <strong>The Travel records of Lao Can <\/strong>(\u8001\u6b8b\u6e38\u8bb0 l\u01ceo c&aacute;n y&oacute;uj&igrave;) by <strong>Liu E<\/strong> (\u5218\u9e57 Li&uacute;&nbsp;E), and <strong>Flowers in a Mrrior<\/strong> (\u955c\u82b1\u7f18 j&igrave;ng hu\u0101 yu&aacute;n) by <strong>Li Ruzhen <\/strong>(\u674e\u6c5d\u73cd&nbsp;L\u01d0 R\u01d4zh\u0113n). In addition, as contacts with foreign countries increased day by day, Chinese bourgeoisie realized the need to learn from the west, that over 1000 novels were translated and the leading translators are <strong>Yanfu<\/strong> (\u4e25\u590d Y&aacute;n F&ugrave;) and <strong>Linshu <\/strong>(\u6797\u7ebe L&iacute;n Sh\u016b), which played a important part in promoting Chinese novel writing of the time as well as subsequent years.<\/p>\n<p>  \tOn May 4, 1919, an anti-imperialist, anti-feudal revolutionary movement broke out, marking the beginning of a new literature which directly helped the rising of the new literature movement to promote science, democracy and writings in the vernacular. <strong>Luxun<\/strong> (\u9c81\u8fc5 L\u01d4 X&ugrave;n) is the chief figure of the new cultural movement. With incisive realism, his collects of essays like <strong>Call for Arms <\/strong>(\u5450\u558a n&agrave; h\u01cen) and <strong>Wandering<\/strong> (\u5f77\u5fa8 p&aacute;ng hu&aacute;ng) lash out against the iniquities of the time. And his most famous short story the <strong>True Story of Ah Q<\/strong> (\u963fQ\u6b63\u4f20 \u0101 Q zh&egrave;ng zhu&agrave;n) is international acknowledged as an immortal work in the history of modern Chinese literature.<\/p>\n<p>  \tIn the field of poetry, <strong>Guo Moruo <\/strong>(\u90ed\u6cab\u82e5 Gu\u014d M&ograve;ru&ograve;) is the figure initiated the modern Chinese poetry with his outstanding example, <strong>The Goddess <\/strong>(\u5973\u795e n\u01da sh&eacute;n).<\/p>\n<p>  \tOther important works of this period are novels <strong>Midnight<\/strong> (\u5b50\u591c z\u01d0 y&egrave;) by <strong>Mao Dun <\/strong>(\u8305\u76fe M&aacute;o D&ugrave;n),<strong> Camel Xiangzi <\/strong>(\u9a86\u9a7c\u7965\u5b50 lu&ograve;tu&oacute; Xi&aacute;ngz\u01d0) by <strong>Lao She <\/strong>(\u8001\u820d L\u01ceo Sh&egrave;), <strong>Trilogy of the Turbulent Currents<\/strong> (\u6fc0\u6d41\u4e09\u90e8\u66f2 j\u012bli&uacute; s\u0101n b&ugrave; q\u01d4) by <strong>Ba Jin <\/strong>(\u5df4\u91d1 B\u0101 J\u012bn) which embraced three full-length novels-<strong>The Family<\/strong> (\u5bb6 ji\u0101), <strong>Spring<\/strong> (\u6625ch\u016bn)&nbsp;and <strong>Autumn<\/strong> (\u79cb qi\u016b) and the play <strong>Thunderstorm<\/strong> (\u96f7\u96e8 l&eacute;i y\u01d4) by<strong> Cao Yu <\/strong>(\u66f9\u79ba C&aacute;o Y&uacute;).<\/p>\n<p>  \tDuring the War of Liberation, themes of literature are generally the rural life in liberation areas and Chinese peasant&rsquo;s struggle against the feudal rule and the system of exploitation. Representatives are <strong>Zhou Libo&rsquo;s <\/strong>(\u5468\u7acb\u6ce2 Zh\u014du L&igrave;b\u014d) <strong>The Hurricane <\/strong>(\u66b4\u98ce\u9aa4\u96e8 b&agrave;of\u0113ng-zh&ograve;uy\u01d4), <strong>Zhao Shuli&rsquo;s <\/strong>(\u8d75\u6811\u7406 Zh&agrave;o Sh&ugrave;l\u01d0) novel <strong>The Marriage of Young Black<\/strong>(\u5c0f\u4e8c\u9ed1\u7ed3\u5a5a Xi\u01ceo Erh\u0113i ji&eacute;h\u016bn) and <strong>Rhymes of Li Youcai <\/strong>(\u674e\u6709\u624d\u677f\u8bdd L\u01d0 Y\u01d2uc&aacute;i b\u01cenhu&agrave;),<strong> Li Ji&rsquo;s <\/strong>(\u674e\u5b63 L\u01d0 J&igrave;) long poem <strong>Wang Gui and Li Xiangxiang <\/strong>(\u738b\u8d35\u548c\u674e\u9999\u9999 W&aacute;ng Gu&igrave; h&eacute; L\u01d0 Xi\u0101ngxi\u0101ng) and the opera <strong>The White-haired Girl <\/strong>(\u767d\u6bdb\u5973 b&aacute;i m&aacute;o n\u01da) by <strong>He Jingzhi <\/strong>(\u8d3a\u656c\u4e4b H&egrave; J&igrave;ngzh\u012b) and <strong>Ding Yi <\/strong>(\u4e01\u6bc5 D\u012bng Y&igrave;).<\/p>\n<p>  \tModern Chinese literature is prosperous\u3002<\/p>\n<div class=\"chine-tie-zi-nei-rong-zhi-hou\" id=\"chine-2491961288\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1889418300638825\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1889418300638825\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7273022922\" \ndata-ad-layout-key=\"-gw-3+1f-3d+2z\"\ndata-ad-format=\"fluid\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, I will introduce the modern Chinese literature.
