A co-production between China and Hong Kong, the film was directed by Tsui Hark\uff08\u5f90\u514bX&uacute; k&egrave;\uff09 from a screenplay written by Chen Kuofu.<\/p>\n<p>  \tThe film stars Andy Lau(\u5218\u5fb7\u534eLi&uacute; d&eacute;hu&aacute;) as the lead role, and features art direction and fight choreography by Sammo Hung. The film&#39;s supporting cast includes Carina Lau\uff08\u5218\u5609\u73b2Li&uacute; ji\u0101l&iacute;ng\uff09, Li Bingbing\uff08\u674e\u51b0\u51b0L\u01d0 b\u012bngb\u012bng\uff09, Deng Chao\uff08\u9093\u8d85d&egrave;ng ch\u0101o\uff09 and Tony Leung Ka-fai\uff08\u6881\u5bb6\u8f89Li&aacute;ng ji\u0101hu\u012b\uff09. Principal photography for Detective Dee began in May 2009; the film was shot at Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang, China.
