Cry the fish hawks<br \/>  \ton sandbars in the river:<br \/>  \ta mild-mannered good girl,<br \/>  \tfine match for the gentleman.<\/p>\n<p>  \tA ragged fringe is the floating-heart,<br \/>  \tleft and right we trail it:<br \/>  \tthat mild-mannered good girl,<br \/>  \tawake, asleep, I search for her.<\/p>\n<p>  \tI search but cannot find her,<br \/>  \tawake, asleep, thinking of her,<br \/>  \tendlessly, endlessly,<br \/>  \tturning, tossing from side to side.<\/p>\n<p>  \tA ragged fringe is the floating-heart,<br \/>  \tleft and right we pick it:<br \/>  \tthe mild-mannered good girl,<br \/>  \tharp and lute make friends with her.<br \/>  \tA ragged fringe is the floating-heart,<br \/>  \tleft and right we sort it:<br \/>  \tthe mild-mannered good girl,<br \/>  \tbell and drum delight her.<\/p>\n<p>  \t[NOTES]<\/p>\n<p>  \tThis is a love poem, describing a man of the royal family in love with a girl collecting edible water plants , and his efforts to court her.<\/p>\n<p>  \tZhounan: (The Odes of Zhou and the South) In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, Lord Dan of Zhou (reigned 1063-1057 B.C.) made Luo City (today&#39;s Luoyang City in Henan Province) its capital and from there he ruled over other dukes.
