It is a Hong Kong action film starring Jet Li,<strong> Lau Ching-Wan<\/strong>(\u5218\u9752\u4e91Li&uacute; Q\u012bngy&uacute;n), <strong>Karen Mok<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">(<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">\u83ab\u6587\u851aM&ograve; W&eacute;nw&egrave;i)&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">and <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">Anthony Wong Chau-Sang<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">(\u9ec4\u79cb\u751fHu&aacute;ng Qi\u016bsh\u0113ng\uff09<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">. It was directed by Daniel Lee and produced by Tsui Hark and his production company <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">Film Workshop<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">(\u7535\u5f71\u5de5\u4f5c\u5ba4di&agrave;ny\u01d0ng g\u014dngzu&ograve;sh&igrave;)&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.8em;\">. In 1999, the film was English-dubbed and released in the U.S. by Artisan Entertainment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  \tThe film is based an adapted version of the 1992 manhua Black Mask by Li Chi-Tak. The film was later followed by a 2002 sequel, Black Mask 2: City of Masks.<br \/>  \tIn homage to <strong>The Green Hornet<\/strong>(\u9752\u8702\u4fa0q\u012bngf\u0113ng xi&aacute;\uff09, Black Mask wears a domino mask and chauffeur&#39;s cap in the same style as Kato from the series. The Black Mask is even compared to Kato in a news reporter scene.<\/p>\n<p>  \t<strong>Plot<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>  \tTsui Chik (Simon in the US version), tries to lead a quiet life as a librarian. However, he is really a former test subject for a highly secretive supersoldier project and the instructor of a special commando unit dubbed &quot;701.&quot; The 701 squad is used for many government missions, but after one of the agents kills a team of policemen in an uncontrollable rage, the government decides to abort the project and eliminate all the subjects. Tsui Chik helped the surviving 701 agents flee the extermination attempt. Having escaped, Tsui Chik went separate ways from his team Later, he discovers that rest of the team were responsible for a violent crime spree that was beyond the capability of the local police. He sets out to stop them, donning a disguise and using the superhero alias of &quot;Black Mask&quot;.
