Beijing <\/span><\/strong>(\u5317\u4eac B\u011bij\u012bng) or <\/span>Peking <\/span><\/strong>(\u5317\u4eac B\u011bij\u012bng)\uff1f<\/p>\n

As an example, you might remember that the capital of China used to become Peking, however it is now Beijing. But in China, the name of the city in no way changed- it had been usually <\/span>\u5317\u4eac<\/span>. The title Peking is just an alternate Romanization from the Chinese characters, which are at the moment transliterated to Beijing.<\/p>\n

It is of much im<\/em>portance to note that these early Romanization system were correct, it’s just that they used co<\/em>nventions which were not extensively recognized. For instance, the Wade-Giles <\/span>chi<\/span> <\/span>is equivalent towards the Pinyin <\/span>ji<\/span>, so English speakers tend to pro<\/em>nounce the <\/span>ch<\/span> <\/span>of <\/span>taichi <\/span><\/strong>(\u592a\u6781 tàijí) as in chat, rather than the more exact sound of <\/span>ji<\/span> <\/span>as in jeep. Pinyin also has some unco<\/em>nventional pronunciations, but around the complete, Pinyin spellings are pro<\/em>nounced a lot more accurately.<\/p>\n
