{"id":3498,"date":"2019-11-18T12:28:37","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T12:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chinesemoment.com\/chinese-culture\/gan-and-shi-039-s-celestial-book-gan-shi-xing-jing\/"},"modified":"2019-11-18T12:28:37","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T12:28:37","slug":"gan-and-shi-039-s-celestial-book-gan-shi-xing-jing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinesemoment.com\/my\/gan-and-shi-039-s-celestial-book-gan-shi-xing-jing\/","title":{"rendered":"Gan and Shi&#039;s Celestial Book \u7518\u77f3\u661f\u7ecf"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Five Planets<br \/>  As early as in Spring and Autumn Period (ch\u016bn qi\u016b sh&iacute; q\u012b \u6625\u79cb\u65f6\u671f) and the Warring States Period (zh&agrave;n gu&oacute; sh&iacute; q\u012b \u6218\u56fd\u65f6\u671f), Chinese people had made great achievement in astronomy. ba<em><\/em>sed on their long-time observation of the celestial phenomena, Gan De (g\u0101n d&eacute; \u7518\u5fb7) of the State of Qi (q&iacute; gu&oacute; \u9f50\u56fd) wrote a work titled Astro<em><\/em>nomy and Astrology (ti\u0101n w&eacute;n x\u012bng zh&agrave;n \u5929\u6587\u661f\u5360) in eight volumes, and Shi Shen (sh&iacute; sh\u0113n \u77f3\u7533) of the State of Wei (w&egrave;i gu&oacute; \u9b4f\u56fd)wrote his Astro<em><\/em>nomy (ti\u0101n w&eacute;n \u5929\u6587), also in eight volumes. The later generations combined their books, naming it Gan and Shi&rsquo;s Celestial Book (g\u0101n sh&iacute; x\u012bng j\u012bng \u7518\u77f3\u661f\u7ecf), which is the earliest astro<em><\/em>nomic work in the world.<\/p>\n<p>  Gan DeGan and Shi&rsquo;s Celestial Book is the regarded as the earliest astro<em><\/em>nomic work in the world. It boasts a record of the names of over 800 stars, the positions of 121 which have been ascertained. Gan De discovered Jupiter&#8217;s moon with the naked eye, 2,000 years earlier than the Italian astro<em><\/em>nomer Galileo, who discovered it with an astro<em><\/em>nomical telescope in 1609. Shi Shen discovered the reason for solar and lunar eclipses. A crater on the moon has been named after Shi Shen. Besides, the movement of five planets&mdash;Jupiter Shi Shen(m&ugrave; x\u012bng \u6728\u661f), Mars (hu\u01d2 x\u012bng \u706b\u661f), Saturn (t\u01d4 x\u012bng \u571f\u661f), Venus (j\u012bn x\u012bng \u91d1\u661f), and Mercury (shu\u01d0 x\u012bng \u6c34\u661f) and the rule dictating their appearances were also recorded. In later generations, many astro<em><\/em>nomers referenced the data from Gan and Shi&rsquo;s Celestial Book when they measured the place and movement of the sun, the moon and the other planets.
