M: zh\u014dngyú, ZHONG YU, means "finally, at last". Zh\u014dngyú.<\/p>\n

S: And guòqùle, GUO QU LE, guòqùle, means ‘has passed’, ‘is over’. The little ‘le’ is often found at the end of a sentence to signify completion.<\/p>\n

M: \u4eca\u5929\u7684\u5929\u6c14\u771f\u51c9\u5feb, the weather today is really cool and comfortable. J\u012bnti\u0101n, we know is "today". So can you figure out what "j\u012bnti\u0101nde" means?<\/p>\n

S: Right, it means ‘today’s’. Just like ‘t\u0101’ is ‘he’ or ‘she’ or ‘it’, and t\u0101de means ‘his’ or ‘hers’ or ‘its’.<\/p>\n

M: And ‘ti\u0101nqì zh\u0113nliángkuài’. ‘tianqi’, TIAN QI means ‘weather’. Zhen means ‘real’, ‘really’. And liángkuài, LIANG KUAI, second tone and fourth tone, means ‘nice and cool’.<\/p>\n

S: \u5bf9\u4e0d\u5bf9, "isn’t it?" Duìbúduì.<\/p>\n

M: So the whole sentence ‘\u4eca\u5929\u7684\u5929\u6c14\u771f\u51c9\u5feb\uff0c\u5bf9\u4e0d\u5bf9?’ Today’s weather is nice and cool, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

S: And Manli replied, ‘\u662f\u554a\uff0c\u79cb\u5929\u7684\u786e\u5f88\u51c9\u5feb.’ Shì a, q\u012buti\u0101n díquè h\u011bn liángkuài. Just now we learned that ‘xiàti\u0101n’ is summer. So can you guess the meaning of this sentence? Right! It means ‘yes, autumn is indeed cool.’<\/p>\n

M: So ‘q\u012buti\u0101n’, QIU TIAN, q\u012buti\u0101n, is ‘autumn’. And ‘díquè’, DI QUE, díquè means ‘indeed’, a very useful word.
S: Ok, so what did ML say then?<\/p>\n

M: \u6211\u771f\u60f3\u51fa\u53bb\u65c5\u6e38\u3002W\u01d2 zhénxi\u01ceng ch\u016bqù l\u01dayóu.<\/p>\n

S: xi\u01ceng, we’ve learnt, can mean ‘think’. But here it means ‘want’ or ‘desire’.<\/p>\n

M: \u51fa\u53bb\u65c5\u6e38, go out travelling. \u51fa\u53bb\u65c5\u6e38. Here ch\u016bqù, CHU QU, ch\u016bqù means ‘go out’, and ‘l\u01dayóu’, LV YOU, l\u01dayóu, means ‘travel’, usually to places of interest or scenic spots. Say it, ch\u016bqù l\u01dayóu, w\u01d2 zh\u0113n xi\u01ceng ch\u016bqù l\u01dayóu. w\u01d2 zh\u0113n xi\u01ceng ch\u016bqù l\u01dayóu.<\/p>\n

S: Me too. W\u01d2 y\u011b xi\u01ceng. W\u01d2 y\u011b xi\u01ceng, which literally means ‘I also want to.’ \u6211\u542c\u8bf4\u8fc7\u5f88\u591a\u98ce\u666f\u540d\u80dc\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u4e00\u76f4\u6ca1\u6709\u673a\u4f1a\u53bb\u3002I’ve heard a<\/em>bout many scenic spots and places of interest, but never got a chance to visit them.
