Not encouraging rural kids to go to university?<\/p>\n

Netizens have unanimously opposed the idea of "not encouraging rural students to go to university," which was raised yesterday by Wang Ping, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Co<\/em>nsultative Co<\/em>nference and director of Beijing Museum of Chinese Nation, the Information Times reports. "We should not encourage rural students to go to university because o<\/em>nce they go they are not willing to go back to their hometown, and it’s a tragedy that they will not return home," Wang said.<\/p>\n

However, the netizens think the gap between rural and urban areas is key to the problem, and everyone has a right to pursue happiness. Although rural students living in cities may lead a hard life, it’s still much better than staying in the countryside. Lin Shuguang, a deputy to the Natio<\/em>nal People’s Co<\/em>ngress and dean of the People’s Hospital of Guangdong, thinks if the rural areas are co<\/em>nstructed better, people will naturally go there.<\/p>\n

Minors wired to Internet<\/p>\n

According to a survey released recently by the Chinese Young Pio<\/em>neers Business Development Center and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a<\/em>bout 47 percent of the minors in China owned a mobile phone and 40 percent used it to go online, the China Youth Daily reports. The results show that most children use cell pho<\/em>nes to chat, read blogs, play games, and search for information on the Internet. The survey, which was co<\/em>nducted over 6 months, included mainly students between 10 and 18 in 106 middle and elementary schools across the country.<\/p>\n
