Yajie: Last time we talked a<\/em>bout weather. Today we’ll co<\/em>ntinue with the topic and learn an im<\/em>portant word — “\u6bd4”.

<\/strong>Today we’ll learn more ex<\/em>pressions a<\/em>bout weather. \u6bd4 means than,for example – \u4eca\u5929\u6bd4\u6628\u5929\u70ed\u3002Today’s hotter than yesterday. \u70ed, hot. \u51b7, cold. \u51c9\u5feb, cool. All in today’s Chinese Studio.

Cam: \u70ed (rè).
Yajie: \u6bd4is similar to the English word “than”.
Cam: \u6bd4 (b\u01d0).
Yajie:\u4eca\u5929\u6bd4\u6628\u5929\u70ed. Today is hotter than yesterday.
Cam: \u4eca\u5929\u6bd4\u6628\u5929\u70ed. (j\u012bnti\u0101n b\u01d0 zuóti\u0101n rè).
Yajie: \u4eca\u5929(j\u012bnti\u0101n). Today.
Cam: \u4eca\u5929(j\u012bnti\u0101n).
Yajie: \u6628\u5929 (zuóti\u0101n).

Cam: \u660e\u5929(míngti\u0101n).  Sometimes at the end of our show, we’ll say mingtian jian, which means see you tomorrow.
Yajie: Very good.  So together yesterday, today and tomorrow is\u6628\u5929 (zuóti\u0101n), \u4eca\u5929(j\u012bnti\u0101n), \u660e\u5929(míngti\u0101n).

Cam: It’s \u4eca\u5929\u6700\u9ad8\u6c14\u6e29\u4e09\u5341\u5ea6\u3002(j\u012bnti\u0101n zuìg\u0101o qìwèn s\u0101nshí dù.)
Yajie: Right. And if it was 28 degrees yesterday, which was a little bit lower than today, then you can use\u6bd4 to make a sentence. The sentence could go like this: \u4eca\u5929\u6bd4\u6628\u5929\u70ed. (j\u012bnti\u0101n b\u01d0 zuóti\u0101n rè). Today is hotter than yesterday.
Cam: \u4eca\u5929\u6bd4\u6628\u5929\u70ed. (j\u012bnti\u0101n b\u01d0 zuóti\u0101n rè). By the way what’s the opposite of \u70ed(rè)?
Yajie: It’s \u51b7 (l\u011bng), cold.
Cam: \u51b7 (l\u011bng).
Yajie: \u51b7, l-\u011b-n-g, the third tone.
Cam: \u51b7 (l\u011bng).
Yajie: There is a phrase — \u8d8a\u6765\u8d8a, which means becoming more and more….For example,\u5929\u513f\u8d8a\u6765\u8d8a\u51b7\u4e86.(Tianr yuelaiyue leng le), which means It’s becoming colder and colder.
Yajie: And in winter the weather in the northern part of China is colder than that of the south.<\/p>\n

Cam: Then how do you say it’s cooler than yesterday?
Yajie: Good question. Cool in Chinese is \u51c9\u5feb.
Cam: \u51c9\u5feb(liángkuai). \u51c9\u5feb(liángkuai) is normally used to describe the weather in autumn, right?
Yajie: Right.You could say \u8fd9\u513f\u7684\u79cb\u5929\u771f\u51c9\u5feb\uff01It’s cool here in autumn.
Cam: \u8fd9\u513f\u7684\u79cb\u5929\u771f\u51c9\u5feb\uff01(zhèr de qi\u016bti\u0101n zh\u0113n liángkuai).<\/p>\n
