\t\u53e3\u5934\u7985(k\u01d2u tóu chán): pet phrase<\/p>\n

\t\u662f(shì): to be<\/p>\n

\t\u4ec0\u4e48(shén me): what<\/p>\n

\tThe top 10 Chinese pet phrases in all their glory, based on official stats:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\t10. \u6ca1\u610f\u601d(méi yì si): boring.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\tEg.: “how was that movie?” “\u6ca1\u610f\u601d(méi yì si).”<\/p>\n

\t9. \u633a\u597d\u7684(t\u01d0ng h\u01ceo de): “pretty good”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\tCan use in almost any situation, like your job, health, the taste of food, etc.<\/p>\n

\tEg.: “what do you think of that guy?” “\u633a\u597d\u7684(t\u01d0ng h\u01ceo de).”<\/p>\n

\t8. “\u4e0d\u662f\u5427(bú shì ba)” or “\u771f\u7684\u5047\u7684\uff1f(zh\u0113n de ji\u01ce de?)”<\/strong>: “that’s not true is it?” or “really?”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\tUse when you’re surprised or find something hard to believe.<\/p>\n

\tYou can even use them together for maximum impact!<\/p>\n

\t7. \u65e0\u804a(wú liáo): “boring”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\tEg.: “What’s up?” “\u5e72\u561b\u5462\uff1f” (gàn má ne?)<\/p>\n

\t“Being bored” “\u65e0\u804a\u7740\u5462\u3002” (wú liáo zhe ne?)<\/p>\n

\tUse this in a wide range of situations, like if:<\/p>\n

\t      you can’t stand something<\/p>\n

\tDoesn’t refer to serious depression, but instead “feeling down.” Applies most when you’ve had a rough day and you have some pent up frustrations.<\/p>\n

\tEg.: a student has a bad grade and is criticized by their teacher. The student feels angry but can’t take it out on their teacher so he\/she just says: “\u771f\u90c1\u95f7\uff01”<\/p>\n

\tLike in English, it doesn’t refer to people who are actually insane.<\/p>\n

\tBut unlike the English, where “crazy” can be used quite positively, in Chinese this always sounds negative. It implies that something’s “messed up” about the person. Eg. If someone does something strange in a public place then they might hear this word.<\/p>\n

\t1. \u968f\u4fbf(suí biàn): “whatever” or “anything’s fine”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\tUsually use this when hanging out with people and making a decision.<\/p>\n

\tEg. “What do you want to eat?” “\u968f\u4fbf(suí biàn)”<\/p>\n

\tEg. “What do you want to do?” ”\u968f\u4fbf(suí biàn)”<\/p>\n
