{"id":17562,"date":"2020-01-05T14:49:16","date_gmt":"2020-01-05T14:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chinesemoment.com\/chinese-culture\/hk-festival-the-seven-sisters-festival\/"},"modified":"2020-01-05T14:49:16","modified_gmt":"2020-01-05T14:49:16","slug":"hk-festival-the-seven-sisters-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinesemoment.com\/th\/hk-festival-the-seven-sisters-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"HK Festival: The Seven Sisters Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>  \t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>  \t<strong>The Seven Sisters Festival<\/strong>\uff08Q\u01d0qi\u01ceo Ji&eacute;&nbsp;\u4e5e\u5de7\u8282\uff09falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>  \t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>  \tInformally known as &lsquo;Chinese Valentine&rsquo;s Day&rsquo; (along with <strong>the Spring Lantern Festival<\/strong>\uff08Yu&aacute;nxi\u0101o Ji&eacute; \u5143\u5bb5\u8282\uff09) the Seven Sisters Festival has its origins in the two stars <strong>Altair<\/strong>\uff08Ni&uacute;l&aacute;ng X\u012bng\u725b\u90ce\u661f\uff09 and <strong>Vega<\/strong>\uff08Zh\u012bn\u01da X\u012bng\u7ec7\u5973\u661f\uff09. Chinese legend tells that these shining beauties are actually two lovers &ndash; a mortal cowherd and a goddess weaver &ndash; who have been cruelly separated on either side of <strong>the Milky Way<\/strong>\uff08Y&iacute;nh&eacute;\u94f6\u6cb3\uff09. While the tale has several variations, many say that on this date each year the magpies of the world take pity on the star-crossed pair and form a temporary bridge for them to be united.<\/div>\n<div>  \t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>  \tThe festival is traditionally celebrated with needlework competitions, the burning of incense and young women making offerings to the lovesick goddess weaver and her cowherd beau.
