It is traditionally attributed to Guliang Chi \u8c37\u6881\u8d64 (also called Guliang Xi \u8c37\u6881\u559c or Guliang Shu \u8c37\u6881\u6dd1) from the state of Lu \u9c81 who had obtained the Chunqiu annals from Confucius&#39; disciple Zixia \u5b50\u590f and wrote a commentar to it. The book is in fact the result of a commentary tradition which found its final codification at the beginning of the Former Han period \u524d\u6c49 (206 BCE-8 CE). During the reign of Emperor Xuan \u6c49\u5ba3\u5e1d (r. 74-49 BCE) it became part of the Confucian Canon that built the curriculum in the National University (taixue \u592a\u5b66).<\/p>\n<p>  \tAlthough the principle of commenting the entries of the Chunqiu annals and the objective to make a moral evaluation of the political events is the same as in the Gongyang commentary there are differences between the interpretation of the two.<\/p>\n<p>  \tDuring the Eastern Jin period \u4e1c\u664b (317-420) Fan Ning \u8303\u5b81 wrote a summary commentary to the Gulianzhuan called Chunqiu Guliangzhuan jijie \u6625\u79cb\u8c37\u6881\u4f20\u96c6\u89e3. The Tang period \u5510 (618-907) scholar Yang Shixun \u6768\u58eb\u52cb compiled another commentary. Both are united as Chunqiu Guliangzhuan zhushu \u6625\u79cb\u8c37\u6881\u4f20\u6ce8\u758f, with the zhu commentary of Fan Ning and the shu commentary of Yang Shixun. During the Qing period \u6e05 (1644-1911), Zhong Wenzheng \u949f\u6587\u84b8 compiled the Guliang buzhu \u8c37\u6881\u8865\u6ce8.<\/p>\n<p>  \tThe two commentaries by Gongyang and Guliang are two surviving of a whole of four.
