It is also called Youshen Bagua (roving eight-diagram), Longxing Bagua (dragon-shaped eight-diagram), Xingyi Bagua (Xingyi eight-diagram Chuan), Yinyang Bapan Zhang (positive-negative eight-plate palm), etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"border-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; border-left: 0px; padding-bottom: 0.5em; widows: 2; text-transform: none; background-color: rgb(255,255,255); text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; font: 14px\/21px arial, sans-serif; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; letter-spacing: normal; color: rgb(51,51,51); border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; word-spacing: 0px; padding-top: 0.5em; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px\">  \tThere are different stories about the origin of this school of Chuan. Some of them learned Bagua Zhang from scratch from their <strong>tutor<\/strong>s<strong>\uff08\u5bfc\u5e08d\u01ceosh\u012b\uff09<\/strong>, while others asked the masters for advice to improve their own skills. Over the years various routines of exercises were cultivated in different styles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"border-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; border-left: 0px; padding-bottom: 0.5em; widows: 2; text-transform: none; background-color: rgb(255,255,255); text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; font: 14px\/21px arial, sans-serif; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; letter-spacing: normal; color: rgb(51,51,51); border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; word-spacing: 0px; padding-top: 0.5em; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px\">  \tThe eight-diagram palm is based on the old Chinese philosophy of eight combinations of three whole and broken lines used in <strong>divination\uff08\u5360\u535czh\u0101nb\u01d4\uff09<\/strong>. While practising, the practitioner moves according to the eight diagrams. There are eight basic palm plays. A total of 64 palm tricks and moves have come from the original eight basic palm plays. Apart from solo practices, there are also <strong>sparring<\/strong>s<strong>\uff08\u5bf9\u6253du&igrave;d\u01ce\uff09<\/strong>, Sanshou (free sparring) and fighting with weapons, such as Bagua sword play, Bagua <strong>sabre\uff08\u9a6c\u5200m\u01ced\u0101o\uff09<\/strong> play and Bagua <strong>cudgel\uff08\u68cd\u68d2g&ugrave;nb&agrave;ng\uff09 <\/strong>play, and Bagua play of shaft decorated with seven stars, etc. While practising these routines, practitioners rove around like a dragon moving amidst clouds (see picture).<\/p>\n<p style=\"border-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; border-left: 0px; padding-bottom: 0.5em; widows: 2; text-transform: none; background-color: rgb(255,255,255); text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; font: 14px\/21px arial, sans-serif; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; letter-spacing: normal; color: rgb(51,51,51); border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; word-spacing: 0px; padding-top: 0.5em; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px\">  \tBagua Zhang features <strong>dexterity\uff08\u7075\u6d3b\u6027l&iacute;nghu&oacute; x&igrave;ng\uff09<\/strong> and <strong>agility\uff08\u654f\u6377m\u01d0nji&eacute;\uff09<\/strong>. When moving around it is like walking in a <strong>muddy\uff08\u6ce5\u6cde\u7684n&iacute;n&igrave;ng de\uff09<\/strong> place, with foot steps changing all the time like running water. Palm <strong>tricks\uff08\u6280\u5de7j&igrave;qi\u01ceo\uff09<\/strong> and body movements follow one after another. The roving around looks like endless circles which overlap one another. The body turns around from the <strong>waist\uff08\u8170y\u0101o\uff09<\/strong> during walking, roving, turning, rising and falling. Palm tricks change with the movements of the body. When the upper body protrudes, the lower part of the body squats back to keep balance. When the arms are sent out, the feet are drawn back.
