Resultative Verb Endings is a class of verb suffixes in Mandarin Chinese. They are used with Functive Verbs (Action Verbs) to show the outcome of that action.There are two basic types of Resultative Verb Endings (RVE) – those that show the actual result of an action, and those that show the possible result of an action.<\/p>\n

Actual Resultative Verb Endings<\/strong>
When we want to indicate the result of a particular action, like reading a book, we can include a RVE such as finished – \u9019\u672c\u66f8\u6211\u770b\u5b8c\u4e86\u3002\/ \u8fd9\u672c\u4e66\u6211\u770b\u5b8c\u4e86\u3002(zhè b\u011bn sh\u016b w\u01d2 kàn wán le.)
In this sentence, the Functive Verb \u770b (kàn) (read) is supplemented by the RVE \u5b8c (wán) (finished). The final character \u4e86 (le) shows that the action is completed.<\/p>\n

Questions Using the Actual RVE<\/strong>
Questions are formed by adding the question tag \u55ce \/ \u5417 ma, or the positive\/negative \u6c92\u6709 \/ \u6ca1\u6709 (méiy\u01d2u) to the RVE:<\/p>\n
