Chinese number ystem does have some tricky parts, but o<\/em>nce you’ve learnt it you will know how to read out any number in Chinese. Single digits are handled the same way as in English, nothing tricky there.<\/p>\n

Eleven, twelve and the teens are handled very logically – they’re formed with \u5341 followed by a digit \u4e00 to \u4e5d. So eleven is \u5341\u4e00, twelve is \u5341\u4e8c, thirteen is \u5341\u4e09 and so on up to nineteen, which is \u5341\u4e5d.<\/p>\n

All the tens are also formed very logically. Twenty is \u4e8c\u5341, thirty is \u4e09\u5341 and so on. Units in the tens are simply added on the end. So twenty one is \u4e8c\u5341\u4e00, thirty four is \u4e09\u5341\u56db and ninety nine is \u4e5d\u5341\u4e5d. All very logical and consistent.<\/p>\n

And one hundred is simply \u4e00\u767e, as in English. So you now know how to count to one hundred in Chinese.<\/p>\n

Note: when there’s a "0" in the middle of a number, you read it as \u96f6 (líng), and don’t put a number after it.
So for "103" you would say:<\/p>\n

\u4e00\u767e \u96f6 \u4e09 (Note the lack of \u5341 here.) = 103<\/p>\n

\u4e00\u767e \u96f6\u5341 \u4e09 (The \u5341 is unwanted here.) =130<\/p>\n
