\u4e3a\u4e86 (wèile) is most often used to indicate the purpose of an action, or the person that will benefit from some act of kindness. In the "purpose" sense, it correspo<\/em>nds pretty well to "in order to" or "for the purpose of" in English.<\/p>\n

\u4e3a\u4e86 as a preposition<\/strong><\/p>\n

When \u4e3a\u4e86 indicates the purpose of an action, it’s usually acting as a preposition. In this role, the whole "\u4e3a\u4e86 phrase" should come before the verb.<\/p>\n

Note also that \u4e3a\u4e86 is a single word; the \u4e86 here is not serving its role as a particle in this case.<\/p>\n

Occasio<\/em>nally you will see \u4e3a\u4e86 acting as a verb by itself. In this case, it usually combines with \u662f, and the meaning is not hard to derive: "to be for."<\/p>\n
