M: And then, ránhòu, the cat said, nà zh\u012b m\u0101o shu\u014d, \u597d\uff0c\u6211\u4e00\u4f1a\u513f\u5c31\u51fa\u6765<\/p>\n

S: h\u01ceo, w\u01d2 y\u012bhuìr jiù ch\u016blái. Ok, one moment, and then I’ll come out. Notice the \u5c31 JIU jiù, which means ‘then’, as in ‘and then I’ll come out’ w\u01d2 jiù ch\u016b lái.<\/p>\n

M: And the dogs said ….<\/p>\n

S: \u597d, \u6211\u4eec\u7b49\u4f60<\/p>\n

M: H\u01ceo, w\u01d2men d\u011bng n\u01d0. \u7b49 DENG d\u011bng, remember, is ‘to wait’. W\u01d2men d\u011bng n\u01d0. We await you.<\/p>\n

S: So can you say, Wait a moment? H\u011bn h\u01ceo. \u7b49\u4e00\u4f1a\u513f d\u011bng y\u012b hu\u01d0r.<\/p>\n

M: W\u01d2men de gùshi jiéshù le. \u6545\u4e8b GU SHI gùshi, ‘story’ gu4shi. \u7ed3\u675f JIE SHU jiéshù, 2nd tone 4th tone, means ‘to end’ jiéshù. W\u01d2men de gùshi jiéshù le. Our story has ended.<\/p>\n

M: Before we go, let’s hear the end of our story again.<\/p>\n
