Li Qingzhao (1084 – 1155), born in Zhangqiu, Jinan city (now part of Shandong province), also known as Yi’an Jushi, was a female lyric poet of the Song Dynasty. She was the representative of the graceful and restrained school. Her early works most portrayed her carefree days, but her later works turned to the pessimistic writing of her birth as well the memories of the central plains. As for the form, she tended to use the technique of Baimiao (outlining). She tried to form her own style, elegant in language and rhythm, and opposed the method of writing prose as that of poet. She also wrote poems, but a few poems are still extant. Different from her Ci-poetry, her poems were praising the times in which she lived and expressing her ambitions. She created the works of Yi’an Jushi’s Collected Works and Yi’an’s Ci-poetry, which were lost to time. Later generations compiled the Shuyu Ci. Co<\/em>ntemporary people compiled the Li Qingzha ji Jiaozhu (Notes on Li Qingzhao collected works).
