South-western Shandong guchuiyue (Percussion and Wind Music) is an instrumental folk music style, with sauna as the dominating instrument. It is typically represented by Jiaxiang guchuiyue (Percussion and Wind Music). It’s popular in Jining City, Zaozhuang City, Heze City and their surrounding areas in Shandong Province, and it’s mainly performed in folk activities such as festivals, celebrations and weddings and funerals.
\u4f9d\u7167\u4f20\u7edf\u4e60\u60ef\uff0c\u6c11\u95f4\u5c06\u4ee5\u4e00\u652f\u5522\u5450\u4e3a\u4e3b\u594f\uff0c\u53e6\u914d\u4ee5\u7b1b\u3001\u7b19\u3001\u5c0f\u9572\u3001\u9f13\u7b49\u4e50\u5668\u8005\uff0c\u79f0“\u5355\u5927\u7b1b”\uff08\u5522\u5450\uff0c\u5f53\u5730\u4fd7\u79f0\u5927\u7b1b\uff09\uff1b\u4ee5\u4e24\u652f\u5522\u5450\u4e3a\u4e3b\u594f\uff0c\u53e6\u914d\u4ee5\u5c0f\u9572\u3001\u4e91\u9523\u3001\u6c6a\u9523\u3001\u4e50\u9f13\u7b49\u4e50\u5668\u8005\uff0c\u79f0“\u5bf9\u5927\u7b1b”\u3002\u6b64\u5916\uff0c\u8fd8\u6709\u4ee5\u9521\u7b1b\u4e3a\u4e3b\u594f\u7684\u4e50\u961f\u548c“\u5494\u620f”\u4e50\u961f\u7b49\u3002
According to traditio<\/em>nal customs, a band equipped with one suona as the dominating instrument and Chinese bamboo flutes, Sheng (a reed pipe wind instrument), small cymbals, drums and other instruments as the accompanying instruments is called “Single suona”. A band equipped with two suo<\/em>nas and small cymbals, Chinese gong chimes, Wangluo (a type of instrument), drums and other instruments as the accompanying instruments is called “Dui suona” (or Twin suona). Moreover, there are also other bands like “Kaxi” and that equipped with a bamboo flute as the dominating instrument.

In the course of the evolvement of the South-western Shandong Percussion and Wind Music, there emerged various works, multiple to<\/em>nal systems and exquisite performing skills, hundreds of folk bands, and thousands of percussion and wind music successors. Those typical works include A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix (or Bai Niao Chao Feng), Opening the Door with Number Six (or Liu Zi Kai Men), A Spray of Blossom (or Yi Zhi Hua), Big Pack (or Da He Tao), Snow into the Wind (or Feng Jiao Xue), Carrying the Bridal Sedan-Chair (or Tai Hua Jiao), etc. And, there are altogether 300 works. Major performers highly skilled in the musical type include Ren Tongxiang, Jia Ruiqi, Yuan Ziwen, Wei Yongtang, etc. Meanwhile, there are plenty of representative troupes. As in Jiaxiang County only, there are “Yangjia Troupe” led by Yang Xingyun, “Caojia Troupe” led by Cao Ruiqi, “Renjia Troupe” led by “Ren Tongxiang”, “Zhaojia Troupe” led by Zhao Xingyu, and “Jiajia Troupe” led by Jia Chuanxiu. As to performance style, Yangjia Troupe is featured by simplicity and elegance, solemnity and serenity and Caojia Troupe by purity in timbre and dolce. Moreover, Renjia Troupe features with bright timbre and delicate sentiment, Zhaojia Troupe with broad and thick, exalted and bright timbre, and Jiajia Troupe with ringing and undulating timbre. For a period of time, these five troupes, with other percussion and wind music troupe successors, were competing with each other in the local social life and holding a leading position in respective field and were loved by the general public, making Jiaxiang County be a “Homeland of suona” enjoying tremendous popularity in China.
\u9c81\u897f\u5357\u9f13\u5439\u4e50\u98ce\u683c\u72ec\u7279\uff0c\u8d28\u6734\u8c6a\u653e\uff0c\u9ad8\u4ea2\u6fc0\u6602\uff0c\u5177\u6709\u8f83\u9ad8\u7684\u827a\u672f\u4ef7\u503c\uff0c\u5f97\u5230\u4e13\u5bb6\u548c\u5e7f\u5927\u7fa4\u4f17\u7684\u559c\u7231\u3002\u9c81\u897f\u5357\u9f13\u5439\u4e50\u8fd9\u79cd\u666e\u53ca\u9762\u8f83\u5e7f\u7684\u6c11\u95f4\u827a\u672f\uff0c\u7ecf\u8fc7\u4e13\u4e1a\u6587\u5316\u5de5\u4f5c\u8005\u957f\u671f\u7684\u6316\u6398\u3001\u6574\u7406\u548c\u63a8\u5e7f\uff0c\u5df2\u5728\u5404\u65b9\u9762\u5f97\u5230\u4e86\u5f88\u5927\u7684\u63d0\u9ad8\uff0c\u7531\u5a5a\u4e27\u5ac1\u5a36\u6d3b\u52a8\u4e2d\u7684\u6f14\u594f\uff0c\u9010\u6b65\u6269\u5c55\u5230\u5927\u578b\u8282\u65e5\u8054\u6b22\u3001\u5f00\u4e1a\u5e86\u5178\u3001\u53c2\u519b\u5347\u5b66\u3001\u4e30\u6536\u559c\u5e86\u7b49\u573a\u5408\u7684\u6f14\u594f\uff0c\u4e3a\u4e30\u5bcc\u57ce\u4e61\u6587\u5316\u751f\u6d3b\u3001\u6ee1\u8db3\u7fa4\u4f17\u6587\u5316\u9700\u6c42\u8d77\u5230\u4e86\u4e00\u5b9a\u7684\u4f5c\u7528\u3002
The instrumental folk music is unique, simple, bold, unstrained, resounding and aroused, with high artistic values. It’s favored by professio<\/em>nals and the general public. As a widely popularized folk art form, it has been greatly refined in various aspects as a result of lasting exploration, preparation and promotion by professio<\/em>nal cultural workers. It’s now performed in many occasions, not limited to weddings and funerals, like large-scale gathering during festivals, opening ceremony, joining the army and entering a higher school, and harvest celebrations. It plays a certain role in enriching cultural life in urban and rural areas and satisfying cultural demand of the general public.
