{"id":8006,"date":"2019-10-12T08:21:10","date_gmt":"2019-10-12T08:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chinesemoment.com\/chinese-reading\/liquid-ammonia-leak-in-shanghai\/"},"modified":"2019-10-12T08:21:10","modified_gmt":"2019-10-12T08:21:10","slug":"liquid-ammonia-leak-in-shanghai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinesemoment.com\/vi\/liquid-ammonia-leak-in-shanghai\/","title":{"rendered":"Liquid ammonia leak in Shanghai"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>An initial investigation showed that the liquid ammo<em><\/em>nia leak that killed 15 in Shanghai on Saturday was caused by a detached pipe cap, local authorities said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>  A cap on a pipe carrying liquid ammo<em><\/em>nia fell off, releasing the chemical at around 10:50 a.m. Saturday, which resulted in the death of 15 and left 25 others injured, sources with the Shanghai Municipality Information Office said.<\/p>\n<p>  All 25 injured are receiving hospital treatment and in stable condition, according to the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission.<\/p>\n<p>  Baoshan District enviro<em><\/em>nmental authorities have sent enviro<em><\/em>nmental mo<em><\/em>nitoring vehicles to test the impact of the leak.<\/p>\n<p>  Initial test results show that odors reported early in the morning by nearby residents were unrelated to the leak, and no pollution was detected as of Sunday, according to an official statement from the Shanghai Enviro<em><\/em>nmental Protection Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>  The liquid ammo<em><\/em>nia was used in food refrigeration units at Shanghai Weng&#8217;s Cold Storage Industrial Co., Ltd., which is engaged in the im<em><\/em>port,export, storage, processing and sale of seafood.<\/p>\n<p>  Liquid ammo<em><\/em>nia is a colorless liquid frequently used in industrial sterilization and refrigeration processes.
