The <\/span>shadow banking system<\/strong> <\/span>is a term for the collection of non-bank financial intermediaries that provide services similar to traditio<\/em>nal commercial banks. Shadow banking has grown in im<\/em>portance to rival traditio<\/em>nal depository banking and was a primary factor in the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007-2008 and global recession that followed.<\/p>\n

ba<\/em>sel III (or the Third ba<\/em>sel Accord) is a global, voluntary regulatory standard on bank capital adequacy, stress testing and market liquidity risk. It was agreed upon by the members of the ba<\/em>sel Committee on Banking Supervision in 2010-11, and was scheduled to be introduced from 2013 until 2015; however, changes from April 1, 2013 extended implementation until March 31, 2018.
