Hong Kong is a morden city.but the city saw some great polical events. Hong Kong is often called the "Oriental Pearl", deriving its name from the Xiangjiang River. The two Chinese characters in the name "Xiang" and "Gang" together mean the "Fragrant Harbor". Hong Kong is located in East Asia, just south of the Tropic of Cancer and nestles towards the eastern end of Macau (within 37 miles) lying reverse to Pearl River Delta. It is engulfed by the city of Shenzhen towards its northern stretches within Guangdong Province.

Situated upon an important maritime trade route, it was a conduit for elements of distant cultures. The result was what is now known as Nanyin music, which today preserves many archaic features.
