Today, a great majority of the Hani people, numbering 1,253,952, live between the Honghe and Lancang rivers in the south of Yunnan Province. Others are distributed in Pu’er, Menghai, Jinghong, Mengla, Luquan and Xinping. In history, the Hanis called themselves variously such as "Hani", "Kaduo", "Aini", "Haoni", "Biyue", "Budu" or "Baihong". After the founding of new China, they were generally called the Hani Nationality.

Sharing a bowl of wine side by side is a Gaoshan Tradition. The double-bowl in one piece of wood is unique.

During the Spring Festival, a bull is usually killed by a Drung young man, as others beat gongs and dance with knives and swords in hands.

The Dongxiang Nationality has a population of 373,872, most in the Dongxiang Autonomous County of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu

The Dong people, with a population of 2,514,014, make their homes in Qiandongnan, Yuping, Xinhuang, Tongdao, Zhijiang and Sanjiang counties wher Guizhou, Hunan provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region meet.

The De’angs, with a population of 15.462, live scatterly in Luxi County of Dehong Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, and Zhenkang County of Lincang Prefecture in Yunnan Province. Some can be found in Yingjiang, Ruili, Longchuan, BaoshanXianghe, Longling and Gengma counties intermixing with the Jingpos, Hans, Lisus, Vas and Dais.
